I think just having that kind of thing in a game ostensibly about spells and dragons, makes them feel realer more than anything. Obvs Pillars 1 & 2 were like this, the Owlcat Pathfinder games had similar elements.

Hmm, I think in this case, since it's "become", it changes the base type. "Outsider" is another catchall, and there are a lot of Outsiders that are basically just alien animals and may not be intelligent or sentient either.
