There was chatter about it on the WAN show a few weeks ago, as well as an ASN registration back in July for additional context: www.youtube.com/watch?v=vFXh... bgp.he.net/AS402835#_wh...

Seeing LTT working on a video for ASNs and BGP and dubbing it "becoming our own ISP" has me concerned for the future of the internet. Either we're about to see a crap ton of ASNs pop up, or a crap ton of fraud w/ARIN and disappointed LTT fanboys lol.

OIDC is the new LDAP, hear me out... It's inherently secure, it's easy, and, it works with (almost) everything. This app, literally makes it stupid easy. pocket-id.org

My favorite thing from it was saying all of these company names and the guy who's leasing space to me knew them all! And seeing how folks in the space all use very similar tools, and technologies!

My first DC-experience was interesting to say the least! Very HOT! But TONS and TONS of information to absorb!

Writing this up was alot of fun, lots of research and recalling how I did things. I thought it would be a nice way of encouraging others to follow in my footsteps and start their own ASNs :)

For clarification- to make a move to greener pastures, the next jump, away from helpdesk. I'd love to move into a sysadmin/engineer role, I've got the background and determination. (possibly) a consultant role? I do tend to spread myself on skills, with quantity > focus.

Lately I've just been tacking awesome things onto my "yeah, I've done that" list with my business. It's a dual-edge blade; yes I did it, but, it's another nail in the coffin for my day-job. I'm really hoping this pays off, I'm looking to make a move in 2027, but wouldn't say no to doing it sooner.

I started SCREAMING when I got this working, and my partner was like "what happened!!!???" and came rushing in. I've been cracking at this all day, and finally got it working! He just walked away when he realized it was nerd stuff. I AM my own ISP, and that rocked my world after realizing that! ☺️

Not going to sugarcoat this, I got EXTRAORDINARILY LUCKY with this contract. I found someone, emailed them politely, and managed to negotiate a deal, not something I do too often, but negotiation is power! Looking forward to this after Anthrocon! It's going to be a wild ride!

Learning BGP with my friends has been a total whirlwind! Who knew this much was involved with operating what's essentially the *backbone* of the internet! I'm really looking forward to working on this project! It's going to be awesome!

2AM activities - clicking sliders on pre-staged DNS records and migrating a VM, then nuking the shit out of a baremetal server. Good times... Glad it's finally done though :)

Finally bit the bullet on purchasing / finalizing our ASN. This has been one of those "I'm not sure... Maybe... Why do I...?" type things, but honestly, it should be a good step in the right direction for the company. Will reply to this thread when it's assigned with what it is! 😎

I used to use Ghost, but I ran into some snags with images just *disappearing* post-upgrade, and shut it off. I've been considering something like Hugo, or alike options, but now that I've gone pro with my company, I'm still trying to process how I'm going to publish / write going forward.

Finally getting around to running backups again on a regular basis. Used to use Veeam NFR prior to forming the business proper, but now that I've gone pro, I'd rather reduce the corner cutting. Using a tool called "Backrest" that uses Restic to automate backups! github.com/garethgeorge...

I'm just now realizing the ultimate pivot is going from homelab to home-business. I can list this "operation" as career experience now on my resume and highlight all of the skills and technologies I needed to build it from the ground up. 🤯

Uh-oh, fellow Bitwarden users, not looking good for those of us who self-host w/Vaultwarden. Although, taking it with a grain of salt, employee chimed in as well and said it was a *mistake* and was put back. www.fastcompany.com/91542655/bit... www.reddit.com/r/Bitwarden/...

Is it socially acceptable to dog on crappy Usenet indexers? Whoever runs DogNZB needs to get their shit together, because if I can't reach your API 40% of the time, I'm not going to use your product lol. Literally 40% miss rate - ???

Sometimes, and I hate to admit it, you don't get a choice in the matter. The *perfect* home can be limited by one factor, and 9/10 times it's the fact that it's in a HOA. We got smacked by that with our current home, it is what it is.

I rolled a little *too fast* and started listing it places and talking about it in an unprofessional way, so I decided to reel things back and try again. I'm likely going to start another account for business related things, including the things I work on! When I do, I'll be sure to repost here!

I want to start slow, understand what I'm getting myself into, and build up some capital. Then, once I feel comfortable, I want to try consulting with other small businesses, and seeing how things go. I have alot of experience with alot of different products, and I want to share my knowledge!

Wanted to talk about a few things: Yes - I did start a business, I'm thinking of it as a way to explore what *I* want to do. I enjoy my 9-5, but I thought it would be a great way to branch-out on my own accord and do more. BUT, I'm not sure what direction I want to take it yet!
