🌍🧬 Jaime Pérez-Roldán presented a poster on the genomics of the sub-Antarctic cushion plant Azorella selago, an iconic Southern Ocean species. Despite vast ocean distances, populations show remarkably low genetic differentiation, revealing unexpected connectivity across the Southern Ocean. ❄️🌿

🌊 Jiahao Xu explored with his poster how the Southern Ocean shapes the unique floras of sub-Antarctic islands. Analyses show that the Southern Ocean acts as both a biogeographic barrier and an ecological filter, influencing which species reach, establish and persist on these remote islands. 🌿❄️

🧬 Ángela Aguado-Lara presented a phylogeographic study of *Acaena magellanica*, a widespread plant connecting continental landmasses and remote sub-Antarctic islands across the Southern Ocean. Using genomic data, we found evidence of long-term connectivity among distant populations. 🌍❄️

🌍❄️ Nicolás Echarren-Lucendo explored one key question: how much do we really know about the vascular flora of the sub-Antarctic islands? 🌍❄️ Our review revealed major geographic, taxonomic and knowledge gaps across the region, with many plant families remaining largely understudied.

🌿 Adrián Ramos presented his work on the serpentine fern *Asplenium adiantum-nigrum* subsp. *corunnense*, an Iberian endemic restricted to ultramafic outcrops. 🌿 We uncovered a distinct evolutionary origin from the typical subspecies and identified new potential areas for future surveys.
