I think of it as the "We have the documents!" effect. Alex Jones habitually had a stack of papers (often just printouts of headlines or listener emails) on his news desk that he would gesture at or with saying "we have the documents" as a cheap appeal to authority.

My older brother started his career as a help desk guy. He has an anecdote about a service ticket where he advised that the employee needed to bring the desktop down to them to get debugged. The employee showed up with the monitor and was really confused when told it wasn't actually the computer.

Again: AI is a technology but it's also an ideology; that ideology is Bossism; neither bosses nor AI advocates really understand what most people do in their jobs so both assume AI can do it. They're *trying* but if these tools could replace jobs beyond Junior Software Developer, we'd know.
