Are we sure we want to consider influencers as fulfilling an essential service? Influencers? You sure?

Except that the deal covers so little diesel that it won't have any effect on prices. This is an expression of support for Putin, nothing else.

I have no problem calling it super malignancy.

Even the once ubiquitous "but the Holocaust..." excuse has merely been replaced by "so you support Hammas then?", and the more recent "so you want Iran to have nuclear weapons then?" I say let them throw tantrums. Just ignore them.

Might be better to just let the "antisemitism" labels fizzle out altogether. We already have perfectly good "religious discrimination" and similar labels, which very clearly don't cover criticism of a government. (Besides, doesn't "Semite" technically include Palestinians too?)

I don't see that happening any time soon. Zionists have spent decades very successfully ensuring that the two terms are used and understood as interchangeable.

You mean to say that the great deal maker with mythological (i.e., made up) ability to make deals has once again made a deal where he gets nothing whatsoever, and has spun it into a great victory? Yup, that tracks.

Typical Trump regime - make a mess, then expect someone else to clean up.

Any new competitor will have a very long road towards being comparable (think integrations, efficiency of multiple concurrent video streams, features, ...). It's still worth the effort, just don't expect it to get there quickly. This is not the kind of thing you can just vibe-code into popularity.

Not really a surprise. For all the issues Teams has, it is built on decades of work and experience, and it's the kind of software where all parts that work well are next to invisible to users, making it all the easier to complain about the bad parts.

Huh. An article that actually made me wish it was AI slop instead. Well, the weirdest things happen. But one thing that won't happen is me accepting prediction markets and other gambling sites as reputable sources of information.

"Trump rants" is just a fact of life, like water being wet, air thin, fire hot, and ground hard. And we don't really need to know every detail of what he rants about, do we? It'll always be unimportant, just like the last time and the time before that.

Politicians all over the world are stupid and bigoted. It's probably listed in the job requirements somewhere. But US must have a special breeding programme to turn out bastards this stupid and bigoted.

Brexit was supposed to be a single event - UK leaving EU. How is it still UK's whole identity six years later?

Those things look like you'd have a better view of the road from inside a burlap sack. Also, I don't think I've ever seen a car scream "cheap plastic" as much as these do, not even in a toy store. (I'm guessing a lot of it is metal and other materials, but it still looks like cheap plastic.)

What about the bit in Iran? People aren't suffering and dying because one man's ego couldn't come to terms that the deal signed by his predecessor was better than anything he could manage? That isn't ridiculous and never ending?

It slows everything down. I mean, it's great at finding small mistakes, I just wish I didn't have to read an essay (with a reference to the offending method, a copy of the method, another copy pointing to the error, and another with a fix applied) for every typo I made in a comment no one'll read.

Sheeran had the option to direct the anger that way. But while his supporting acts had all clearly said "no" to evil, Sheeran just went "go right ahead, this has nothing to do with me". That was his choice, and he's earned his share of the anger.

Which is actually rather impressive, considering that he's supposed to have worked within a rather narrow limits of checks and balances, and not lord it over people like some kind of a god-king.

US sees sense, Trump never will. Everything else is just avoidance of the fact that Americans elected someone whose insanity and corruption dwarf those of even the most crazed Roman emperors and the most inbred Egyptian pharaohs.

Problem is that this isn't a video game, where the only thing that matters is the final score. Trump can still do a lot of damage before the trades and supply chains change, which can easily mean many companies going out of business.
010
Grumpy Mat @grumpymat.bsky.social · 16/09/2026
I can only assume that most companies are hoping this'll all pass over soon, and they'll be able to continue working with US partners, most of whom have nothing to do with Trump or his circle of oligarchs. They don't want to risk ruining any good relations they might have.
100
Grumpy Mat @grumpymat.bsky.social · 16/09/2026
Which is again something that companies, not countries (which are just constructs, a bunch of paperwork), have to do. Ironically, this is where tariffs come in - if applied carefully and correctly, they incentivise looking for trade partners elsewhere.
200
Grumpy Mat @grumpymat.bsky.social · 15/09/2026
I agree with your intent (as far as I can read it), but it doesn't help to equate millions of people, all with their own reasons, circumstances, and opinions, with a handful appointed as their representatives. Changing trade partners is neither easy nor quick.
100
Grumpy Mat @grumpymat.bsky.social · 15/09/2026
Yup, because it's up to a few bureaucrats to decide whether to trade with a country, and nothing to do with thousands of privately held companies buying and selling in that country.

As the article states, the goal of the project was efficiency, not appearances. Personally, I don't think it's all that bad (other than being very plasticky), at least compared many other cars on the road, especially sports cars. This one at least has good reasons for looking as it does.

Oh, the irony of using AI to complain about AI!
000
Grumpy Mat @grumpymat.bsky.social · 14/09/2026
Ah yes, let's put aside the issue that *will* drastically change the world over several decades if left unresolved (with some effects already being apparent), and focus on something that *may* inconvenience us now. Then again, shutting down all AI data centres *would* help with climate change.

No, he called for stirring up trouble. If Ireland was united, he'd call for breaking it up. Stop trying to get a meaning out of anything this guy says. Good grief, it's like the press had just heard of Trump for the first time, every time...

A good part of research is correlating known data. LLMs won't invent, but when it comes to research even basic search engines are a powerful tool. Any additional pattern matching will be welcome.

Mercator projection has many advantages. And one big disadvantage. However, if it's the only projection most people see regularly, they get ideas about that one thing shown incorrectly. And boy, are there many size queens around...

As a European, I remember hearing about plenty of protests, such as "No Kings" and ICE protests. It accomplished absolutely nothing. You'd need government officials with at least *some* humanity for that. And less mindless tribalism if you wanted events to affect elections more.

Just another (seemingly random) issue that another former US ally has to deal with. Just how tightly is Putin squeezing Trump's balls? Because Russia is the only winner in these endless distractions Trump's causing for other countries. That's the only consistent pattern of Trump's sowing of chaos.

The risk isn't Downing Street getting booked, but customers being scammed. If the site can't handle fakes this obvious, it'll be far worse when scammers put in some effort.
010
Grumpy Mat @grumpymat.bsky.social · 01/09/2026
I don't think we're anywhere close to such events being avoidable. Not just because of governmental inaction and corporate corruption. Too many still don't care about actually doing in order to change anything - they care about caring itself, or rather, being seen to care.

It doesn't, but it does have leverage, as one of the few trade partners Russia still has.

Just how far are Americans from mandating long beards, wearing night dresses throughout the day, and foregoing hats for dishcloths? I mean, the rest of the imagery, obsession with religion, and dragging the country back by at least a millennium, and so on, is already there...

How about you take a few steps back, pretend 20+ years into the future and teaching history, and look at the entire Trump timeline all at once, without the pretence that maybe he'll be reined in at some point? *Then* try using words like "brink" and "pushing".
