Booked to see the totally glorious Coyote vs. ACME again @dcadundee.bsky.social next week. #CoyotevsAcme My favourite film of the year.

Poster for the film Coyote vs Acme, featuring a Coyote pushing an explosive device up a hill.

Finished Lost In The Garden by Adam S. Leslie. It's a book that won't be for everyone, but I found it very good, a dream-like folk horror tale. #Booksky #Horror #LostInTheGarden #AdamSLeslie

Obsession. That was disturbing, uncomfortable and riveting. And if #IndeNavarette doesn’t get awards recognition for it, it will be a travesty. It’s an incredible performance. #ObsessionMovie @blumhouse.com

Off to @dcadundee.bsky.social for the start of this year’s #Dundead film festival. Before that, the traditions of the Old Gods must be followed, with coffee and cake. Otherwise who knows what horrors might come from the dark….

Rewatching the 2012 adaptation of The Woman In Black, which was Hammer's return to gothic horror. Not a patch on the 1989 TV adaptation, but it still holds up well, though not a fan of some of the changes this version makes. #TheWomanInBlack #HammerHorror #GothicHorror #Film

Currently re-watching Independence Day. One of the thing I like about Emmerich's films in general is amongst all the action he still manages to incorporate small moments for relatively minor characters, other films would not bother with. #Film #Action #ScienceFiction #Filmsky #IndependenceDay

Rewatching The Black Hole on @talkingpicturestv.bsky.social The thought occurs, ditch the 'cute' robots, give it a much darker and serious tone and this might have been Event Horizon, before we got the actual Event Horizon movie.

Loved seeing this @dcadundee.bsky.social last night. I'd seen clips before but had never seen the film as a whole, but it looked sensational on the cinema screen and the newly commisioned score from Andrew Wasylyk and Tommy Perman was terrific. A superb way to end the DCA #Dundead Halloween season.

Shown @dcadundee.bsky.social with the screening of Evilspeak, The Nightwalker is an atmospheric short, the work of Mark Reyes, who stars, writes and directs. It plays like an extended trailer for a longer film, which I would like to see if Reyes were to make it. #Dundead

Kevin @grumphorror.bsky.social · 23/10/2025

I can't say Evilspeak is a good film. There are many things wrong with it. Aspects have not aged too well either. But that said, this variation of Carrie, is enjoyably nasty. Looked great on a cinema screen, being shown from an old VHS tape. @dcadundee.bsky.social #Dundead

Made in 1959, Yesterday's Enemy was made by Hammer. It may get lost among their films due to the success of their Gothic Horrors, but it's an absorbing, brutal and thoughtful film about the decisions made during war. About to start on Film4+1 if you want to see it. #Hammer

Kevin @grumphorror.bsky.social · 02/10/2025

The Curse Of Frankenstein was incredible on the cinema screen. The 4K restoration was stunning. A glorious gothic horror and I don’t think anyone played a callous bastard as good as Peter Cushing does here. Truly glad I got to see on of my favourite Hammer films on the big screen.

Kevin @grumphorror.bsky.social · 27/09/2025

About to see 2001: A Space Odyssey in an ‘unrestored’ 70mm print @princecharlescinema.com Simply put, the greatest SciFi film ever made…even if I will never fully understand it!

Going to @dcadundee.bsky.social tonight for a M3gan double-bill under their Dundead banner. For now, maybe be buying books and writing up some notes on films I’ve seen recently, to review on the Blog. In short, feels like a good day.

Finished The Navajo Nightmare by David Sodergren and Steve Stred. A not bad brutal horror western.

000

Kevin @grumphorror.bsky.social · 18/06/2025

Finished The Living Dead by George A. Romero and Daniel Kraus. Thought the first half better than the second, but it stands as Romero’s final statement in his ‘Dead’ saga and simply a brilliant horror novel.

Kevin @grumphorror.bsky.social · 14/06/2025

Long overdue rewatch of 28 Weeks Later tonight @cineworld.bsky.social Dundee. Tends to get overlooked, especially with the new film due soon, but it is a superb sequel to 28 Days Later and, I’d argue, has a better opening.

010

Kevin @grumphorror.bsky.social · 14/06/2025

Caught up with Ballerina. It may be set in the John Wick world, with a cameo from Keanu Reeves, but while some of the action set-pieces are good, it lacks the magic that makes the John Wick films work.

000

Kevin @grumphorror.bsky.social · 13/06/2025

Tonight’s @cineworld.bsky.social Secret Screaming was The Ritual. Starring Al Pacino, Dan Steven’s and Ashley Greene, it’s based on the events that The Exorcist was, in turn, based on. Had some flaws, but have to say I did enjoy it.
