Setting - The outside the front door of the Caps family's home.

Ember is defiantly standing outside with her hands to her side. She has been unexpectedly thrust into the world. She's going to do her best to survive.

Ember (loudly thinking): MY PARENTS HAVE KICKED ME OUT! SLAMMED THE DOOR IN MY FACE!

Panel 2

Ember forms a plan of action. Thankfully she has seen enough TV to know exactly what to do in this situation. Thank you, fictional orphans.

Ember (thinking in all caps): I'LL LIVE IN THE FOREST AND BEFRIEND THE BEARS AND EAT BERRIES AND LEARN MARTIAL-

The forest bears would like me to tell everyone that they do not teach martial arts and would like everyone to stop spreading that rumor. Please leave the forest bears alone.

Carlos suddenly opens the door and finds his daughter standing outside.

Carlos: EMBER! I'm sorry! I didn't know you were right behind me. Come inside.

Panel 4

Ember is on a comfortable chair and sipping on a juice box.

Ember (thinking with the volume turned up to eleven): RATS.

Ember will have to find the bears another day. Again, the forest bears need everyone to know that they are extremely busy and do not have the time to train anyone. Please stop sending them your resume.

Random small thing I enjoy about Fortune's Weave is the light story telling they seem to be doing with the silent NPCs.

I've wondered how much either method impacts reading comprehension and retention. I also know that I'm terrible at catching spelling and grammar mistakes and wonder if it's connected.

It would be nice to turn off the mini map. The whole thing doesn't seem to serve a practical function outside of getting a different view of the battlefield and the map can get in the way.

You can zoom in all the way with the right stick to view the field close up. Then you can pick a character and press plus to run around as that character.

Panel 1

Setting - Gustopher's room at his desk.

Gustopher is drawing something at his desk when he hears a loud crash. Mewbert jumps up at the sound with all her fur sticking out and back arched. Sounds like a mystery gang, let's not split up and search for clues.

Panel 2

Setting - The kitchen

Gustopher has run to the kitchen to see what is wrong with Mewbert right behind him. August is standing dejectedly while looking down. Clearly something terrible has happened here but can Detective Mewbert and her assistant crack the case.

Gustopher: DAD! What happened? Are there burglars?

August: No.

Mewbert is sad because she was totally ready take on some burglars.

Panel 3

Gustopher excitedly tries to figure out what's going on. He is completely unaware that Detective Mewbert has used her keen logic and ability to actually pay attention to her surroundings to figure out what is going on.

Gustopher: Did something explode? Did a car crash? Did the toilet-

August interrupts before Gustopher finished.

August: I dropped dinner.

Panel 4

Gustopher looks down and only just notices the lasagna spread all over the floor and a broken casserole dish. Mewbert is mentally congratulating herself for a case solved. Nougat is standing sheepishly by August and pretending that she was not walking around in circles around him moments before the unfortunate accident.

Gustopher: Oh... This is worse than I imagined.

August: Yeah.

Sadly, it smells delicious. Don't worry, they got pizza.

????? : His divorce is getting messy.

Stuart maintains his usual perpetual grin and speaks bluntly about the situation. ????? tries to handle it more delicately.

Stuart: Sounds like he needs a talk about keeping a professional presence.

?????: He's having a rough time.

Panel 3

Stuart tries to dismiss any concerns with a strained wink and starts walking off.

Stuart: He needs to leave his problems at home like the rest of us.

?????: But, Sir.

Stuart: Gotta go! Busy, busy.

Panel 4

Setting - Stuart's Office

Stuart goes to to his office, closes the blinds, sits down, and feels the weight of the world upon him. The constant smile he always has is no where to be seen. What could be going through his head at this moment? Maybe he's trying to ignore the fears and anxieties that boil up within him every day. Perhaps he's considering how long he can survive this rat race. Maybe he's questioning how long can he keep putting off his own happiness in the pursuit of financial security. He can't let that get to him now. He left those fears at home. They should be at home. Why are they here? His underwear is also kind of itchy and that's also frustrating.

August is playing video games when he's approached by his son. Gustopher has a look of extreme determination on his face. Nougat watches this all with extreme interest. She loves the drama.

Gustopher: DAD! Today is the day I'm going to beat you.

Gustopher dramatically holds up his phone to reveal the awesome anime song that he's been listening to called "Let's Brawling Dreamers". It's from a classic anime where everyone is a ninja. Please do not confuse it for the anime where everyone's kid is a ninja.

Gustopher: I found an anime song to get me hyped. I've been listening to it for two hours!

WOW! He really is determined. Maybe it will be different this time. Maybe he will finally beat his dad. Maybe-

Video Game: PLAYER 1 WINS!

August is looking sheepishly to side. Gustopher is staring frustratingly forward. It's a little hard to tell but I think maybe, just maybe, Gustopher didn't win. Nougat is loving this and can't wait to see what happens next.

Panel 4

Gustopher maintains his frustrated expression and speaks.

Gustopher: I'll be back in three hours.

The obvious lesson to take from this is that if your awesome anime music didn't work the first time then you probably didn't listen to it long enough. Nougat is trying to get her paws on August's controller. She would also like a go at the game.
