I've never seen Trump using his phone to snap a photo before.

I've now seen more ads for the iPhone Duo (1), five weeks ahead of launch, than I have for the iPhone Air (0), an entire year after launch.

Have you considered that this is just a name-calling rant that doesn’t bring any actual receipts? And in fact omits the ones he alludes to? Actual link to the referenced Verge story, and actual quoted text: www.theverge.com/tech/988536/1passw…

Via Craig Calcaterra's great Cup of Coffee newsletter, where he quips: "Dolly's rider specified that only mustachioed Yankees could appear on her show, but Mattingly was late that day so they had to settle for Righetti. At least that's my head canon of the whole deal."

Just added the following, after paragraph 14:
Screenshot from Daring Fireball, reading:

Om was never impressed by who someone was, what they’d previously accomplished, what grand wealth they’d garnered, or stature they’d achieved. It’s human nature to be overwhelmed by awe in the presence of great people. Om was not. To impress Om, you needed to deliver impressive new work. He was impervious to riptides of hype. Those are superpowers in this racket.

Here’s a quick chart I had ChatGPT make. Looks right to me. I think the inflection point of acceptance at retailers was more like 7-8 years ago. But in the last few years what I’ve seen anecdotally is more people using it, not more retailers accepting it.

I tweaked my CSS long ago. Not a lot, but in a few ways that made it less distracting to me. I think Kagi’s default layout now looks closer to my tweaked version than it did when I made it. My custom CSS first, then default CSS:

In the decades to come, when the Trump era is behind us, it'll be hard to explain to young people that headlines like these made sense in the moment.

Anyone else think Apple's icons for Journal and Shortcuts are way too similar? Shortcuts's icon makes more sense to me: it's a nice stylized "S". I don't even get what the Journal icon represents. Sheets of paper?

I pay $300/year to subscribe to The Information and every time I visit — I swear, seemingly every time — they block the page with a popover trying to get me to upgrade to a $500/year subscription. Why would anyone pay *more* to a publication that treats already-paying subscribers like this?

I think this is one of those urban myths and when people sleep through an alarm they search for it and find hits only to other people talking about the urban myth. My guess is that it’s from iOS’s confusing audio volume settings, which even I don’t fully understand.
Screenshot of Settings → Sounds & Haptics in iOS 18, trying to explain how the main audio volume (set by hardware volume buttons) can be high, the “Rington and Alerts” volume can be very low — and the Clock app’s alarms play at the Ringtone and Alerts volume.

New Fox chyron is excellent. Team names: huge. Score: huge. Logos: none. Colors say enough. Needless chrome: none. Timeouts remaining: prominent but not distracting. Down and yards to go indicator: conveys which team has the ball. Typography: classic, legible, bold, timeless. Outstanding design.

Turns out you can force Siri to go through ChatGPT by treating it like a command line. The ungrammatical query “ChatGPT When does Apple next report quarterly results?" gives an accurate answer. I'd grade the answer A-, losing points for not saying "today” (which ChatGPT.app did).
Screenshot of Siri results on MacOS 15.3, that read “Apple is scheduled to report its fiscal
first-quarter earnings for the period
ending December 2024 on Thursday,

The earnings call will begin at 2:00 PM
Pacific Time (5:00 PM Eastern Time).”

Every time I visit the Washington Post they ask me to re-subscribe. I don't think I've ever seen a subscription offer where the annual rate is *more* expensive than the monthly one. How dumb are they? (Also: fuck 'em, I wouldn't resubscribe for $1/year until Bezos sells.)
