At today’s Repair Cafe we are offering a sharpening service for garden hand tools. Keeping tools clean and sharp helps enormously with their functionality and long life, so we’re really happy to be able to offer this service. Do yours need some care and attention?

Some of this morning’s repairs. Many bikes, a 30 year old much-loved jacket, an assortment of electronics. As always, it is a pleasure to bring things back to life and use.

If your guesses involved CD players, you’d have won! Several were fixed yesterday, alongside many items of clothing, a kettle and more.
A pink kettle that now works well. Electrical fixes are also PAT tested before being returned to their owners.A CD player with a malfunctioning drawer. Opening things up and seeing their innards is always interesting for our volunteers and visitors. This was fixed and sent back home for hopefully a long, happy and musical life. One of our expert sewing volunteers working on a dress. Sewing is always a popular repair. Some visitors are happy to ask for tips and sit mending their own clothes with the support of a volunteer nearby, while others are more complex and are done by our skilled volunteers.

Our knitting expert was able to rework the correct stitches up the ladder and make it as good as new.An ornamental lampshade needed securing, and after mending was taken home to display once more. This purple fabric footstool was coming apart and needed taken apart and making strong again. It’s now ready for many years more use.One of our skilled electrical volunteers working on a pair of headphones. These are really popular items to bring in, and these were made usable once more.

Last month our first fixed item was this small music box that now sings again. What will the first item through the door be this time?
A small wooden music box is being investigated by one of our volunteers.
