I spent a lot of my career working with water and wastewater agencies on IT and other matters. We warned them all about this possibility but by and large most didn’t take it seriously enough or didn’t have the expertise to keep their systems secure. This is going to be a widespread problem.

No, it’s significantly more. A typical car that drives 12,000 miles per year at 20 mpg uses 600 gal of gas per year. At just $1 extra per gallon, with a 2-car household, that’s $1,200 per year. An extra $100 per month is very meaningful to a lot of families. Fuck this guy.
