Bitcoin mining has been nothing more than a huge energy waste in past years. Now AI is about to surpass Bitcoin’s power demand. Emerging tech is rapidly driving up the power demand of worldwide digital infrastructure with the inevitable consequence being strained power grids and more fossil fuel use

That’s as well produced as any Timelapse. Superb execution. It makes it more interesting to push into the daylight hours.

White water is furiously whipped at Mona Vale, NSW. I try to get here regularly. Shot using a longer telephoto to compress the background waves. The camera, and I, were being sandblasted by the wind. Alt text has more description. #Photography #waves #ocean #landscapephotography
A photograph showing nothing but water on an overcast day. The viewpoint is out to sea, while standing at a higher altitude above the enormous waves at Mona Vale, NSW. The close breaking wave is being whipped white by a ferocious wind of 40-50 knots. Behind it are more and more waves, coming in every 8 seconds or so.

Rachel’s wave photography remains extraordinarily beautiful. It’s so very characterful.

AI continues to be a brutal, pointless, existential threat to creativity and artists. That it has stolen virtually everything to be what it is, makes it a robber baron.

First time poster. First time lurker. Sydney Opera House. Long exposure. #longexposure #photograph #Sydney
Long exposure photograph of a portion of the sails, or exterior she’ll, of the Sydney Opera House. The clouds in the sky are softly streaked against the blue sky.

KEEP CATS SAFE—there is clear proof of cat-human household transmission of bird flu. CDC scientists posted the data—but suddenly deleted soon afterwards. CDC is being blatantly muzzled. C.D.C. Posts, Then Deletes, Data on Bird Flu Spread Between Cats and People 🎁🔗 www.nytimes.com/2025/02/06/h...

How does the war on science, the Trump/Musk staffers at NOAA and commercial air travel tie together? Easily. Flying is NOT black magic, it’s applied science. And flying depends upon other scientists to provide the daily information that keeps flying safe.

Unsolicited writing advice, #17171617: Don't just write. Read books. Watch films. Look at paintings and sculpture. Play games. Go to plays. Listen to music. Think about how these things make you feel. Making art is a two-way stream. To make art, you have to consume art.

Reading this article with a degree of worry. Photography still perceived as luxury. Are we a value proposition for consumers? Will consumers flood the banal AI products? Are the prints, books, albums we produce a good buy? Or will it be goodbye to the arts?

Bundeena, NSW. The bride and groom, on their wedding day, had a first look here. Such a beautiful place to be, and they were absolutely delighted to have spent the time together pre-ceremony. That gave them more time with family and friends #photography #wedding
Bride and groom stand side-by-side, looking at each other. In the background is a view of BUndeena Bay, NSW. It's a perfect day. Blue skies. The bride and groom stand on the verandah of a sandstone cottage at Bundeena, NSW. They hold each other. The bride has a beautiful flower arrangement in one hand.

In the middle of the day, with blue sky overhead, the bride stands to watch her horse walk to her. The wedding day was held on the family farm outside Gilgandra. This image conjures up a feel of The Lord of the Rings. I don't think it's just me.
A bridal image showing a bride standing in a field. Her back is to the camera. She is facing a white horse. There horse is walking towards her. It's her horse that she usually rides, but not today in her dress. The dress belonged to her mother and had a few alterations made. The paddock backs onto the NSW Warrumbungles.

White water, blue sky. Mona Vale Beach, NSW. When not photographing people, I take the occasional trip here, mainly when the waves are up.
Mona Vale beach. A large wave barrels over, leaving a little patch of blue water, surrounded by the white wash of the wave and windswept spray billowing above.

A relatively well known Sydney landmark, seen with blue sky. Long exposure image, which certainly are lovely to look at, but require patience to shoot - and more patience when it goes wrong.
Long exposure colour photograph. Shows a few sails of the Sydney opera House, with a cloud streaked blue sky. The image overall has a blue toned feel. It is a calm looking image.
