MJ @grooves.bsky.social · 8hThanks, interesting seeing these reviews. They both have UK sessioners on, think the one I've got has Ike Isaacs on, the other has Don Rendell, Kenny Wheeler etc 010
MJ @grooves.bsky.social · 8hYes, the JC Paul Oliver is 1962, I meant the original publication date was 1960, same as the LP... 110
MJ @grooves.bsky.social · 10hI've avoided the one with André Previn a few times, but maybe even that is alright? Just worry it will be too cocktail jazz trio sounding 110
MJ @grooves.bsky.social · 10hDidn't buy it (probably would have done for a quid!) but love this very Blue Note looking Cherry Wainer LP sleeve I saw earlier 1100
MJ @grooves.bsky.social · 11hIs that related to the book? I can't read the sleeve notes on the Discogs scan 200
MJ @grooves.bsky.social · 11hI think that's the only one of that series I have, wonder how near completion @thameschoral.bsky.social is? 😀 140
MJ @grooves.bsky.social · 11hBesides a Hawaiian shirt, final charity shop purchase today was a book that looked interesting, from the Jazz Book Club series. Paul Oliver "Blues Fell This Morning" 3100
MJ @grooves.bsky.social · 12hIt was only a UK mono though (the least desirable format for this stuff!) and rear sleeve a bit grubby. Holding out for a US and/or stereo copy 🤞 220
MJ @grooves.bsky.social · 13hFrom a more interesting looking collection than normal in Oxfam. Unusual pre-Beatles era stuff, Tommy Sands, Ral Donner, etc. Left Julie London in Satin and a Blossom Dearie as both were rather pricey (£20 and £25) and will see them again at some point... 220
MJ @grooves.bsky.social · 14hSad news, huge thanks to all the organisers. It has been quieter on BlueSky so it is understandable I guess... 010
MJ @grooves.bsky.social · 14hNot checked the rest of the album, but this track on youtube sold me on the Gogi youtu.be/XoPUJ6VZENMyoutu.beWayfaring StrangerYouTube video by Gogi Grant - Topic 120
MJ @grooves.bsky.social · 14hThe rest of today's charity shop finds. Second chance for John Edwards - had it back in the 90s but got rid off as it wasn't funky enough! Gogi Grant is spirituals with Billy May arranging, XALOC - comp of "United Kingdom Goans" (no idea!), and "Nigeria, Musiques Du Plateau" on Ocora 2110
MJ @grooves.bsky.social · 14hTurned out that none of the To Be In Love remixes have grabbed me, but the B-side of the Wiley is pretty good (am a sucker for woozy sounding reversed samples) youtu.be/hlE9NO7ty-4youtu.beWiley - Split It Down The Middle (Instrumental) [2/2]YouTube video by dannycgrimetime 130
MJ @grooves.bsky.social · 14hAt the Jumble Trail the other week also picked up a couple of 12s from a small abandoned collection dating from 2002 that the seller had found when they moved it. Picked up Wiley "Eskimo" with intention to flip and a double pack of remixes of MAW/India's "To Be In Love" with intention to keep... 140
MJ @grooves.bsky.social · 15hI liked Breaking Bad a lot but it did seem to repeat a few episode ideas. It's probably the lower quality crime/thriller stuff than annoys me! They always have a great first couple of episodes then... 100
MJ @grooves.bsky.social · 15h26 episodes just meant it filled six months of the TV schedule, not that you had to watch them all 000
MJ @grooves.bsky.social · 15hAnd maybe the "they should be longer" folk forget that before streaming only really hardcore fans would see every episode of long running shows - most people would miss quite a few due to social life or other commitments and it didn't matter 100
MJ @grooves.bsky.social · 15hI get the impression there are two camps of viewers - one who thinks most series are too long (early cancellations aside!) and another who thinks they should be much longer. I'm very much in the former camp, often with an 8 part series I'm thinking "that could have been a two hour film" 210
MJ @grooves.bsky.social · 15hThe two Insides albums I have (1st and 3rd) can be quite intense with the lyrics etc, have to be in the right mood (but great when am). Not heard the 2nd, missed it at the time and had completely forgotten about its existence... 010
MJ @grooves.bsky.social · 15hI'd heard the tape loop Reich stuff (It's Gonna Rain etc, probably on Radio 3's "Mixing It" or similar) but had no idea about the existence of the rest of his work... 020

MJ @grooves.bsky.social · 15hCharity buy this afternoon - Flowchart "Tenjira". Four track EP of mellow electronica 🌞 #12inchTuesday 160
MJ @grooves.bsky.social · 15hThat Insides CD was my introduction to this stuff - only heard Music for 18 Musicians about 5 years later, and it was both disappointing to hear what it was so clearly based on but also exciting to learn that the Insides record wasn't a unique one-off and there was more minimalism out there... 230
MJ @grooves.bsky.social · 15hThey are great but not normally quite so Reich-like (I believe the record company released this without their permission) 000
Reposted by MJ 𝐃𝐚𝐦𝐞 𝐀𝐠𝐧𝐞𝐬 𝐆𝐮𝐚𝐧𝐨 @agnes-guano.bsky.social · 19hI have no idea quite what was going through the mind of the illustrator responsible for this Portuguese picture sleeve of Clive Dunn's Grandad, but it's quite something to behold. 44913
MJ @grooves.bsky.social · 20hStill seems to be some copies of the Charlotte Grieg LP on bandcamp if anyone fancies some home recorded songs with harmonium, drum machine and folky vocals charlottegreig.bandcamp.com/album/night-...charlottegreig.bandcamp.comNight Visiting Songs, by Charlotte Greig10 track album 120
MJ @grooves.bsky.social · 20hThe Simonsound was DJ Format and someone else, is from 2010 or so, had completely forgotten about this, it's very enjoyable, more psych/synthy than breaks 110
MJ @grooves.bsky.social · 20hThree for a pound CDs from last week, apologies for crap photo. Pleased to find the Charlotte Grieg having bought the posthumous reissue of "Night Visiting Songs" LP, another folky one is Trefor & Vicki Williams which was just a punt to make up numbers but is nice, other is The Simonsound 380
MJ @grooves.bsky.social · 21hNo, now it needs to be hung by clothes pegs (or a clothes hanger) and left in a sunny window for maximum charity shop #vinylstupidity 👍 130
MJ @grooves.bsky.social · 21hCover photo also "sampled" on Stock, Hausen & Walkman's "Organ Transplants" LP (Probably has a Stoneham sample or two as well, long time since I've played it) 030
MJ @grooves.bsky.social · 22hI love them all, but have a special affection for this as it was the first I watched. Vague memory of taping it off late night telly, and thinking "what the hell did I just watch?!" after the ending (with the moon creature) 110
MJ @grooves.bsky.social · 05/10/2026Curiously seems to only appear on comps? Previously unreleased I suppose 210
Reposted by MJSam Weller @samwellerauthor.bsky.social · 29/09/2026This is the most remarkable story Ray Bradbury ever shared with me. He told it to me late one night, sitting in his den of antiquities and mementos. Take five minutes to read this. It’s pure magic. #Writing #Living #Creativity #RayBradbury #BookSky 451636645

MJ @grooves.bsky.social · 05/10/2026Yes, picked that one up a while ago. John Ylvisaker's LPs are still eluding me, only thing I have him on is an Avant Garde label live album 110
MJ @grooves.bsky.social · 05/10/2026Anyway, this is the standout, has been comped as you can see. Gerry McClelland "Come Listen to Me" youtu.be/rZRHwzKHpScyoutu.beGerry McClelland - Come, Listen to MeYouTube video by JazzmanRecords 160
MJ @grooves.bsky.social · 05/10/2026Got a very cheap copy of this on eBay the other week, classic crap seller behaviour - no inner sleeve and rubbish homemade "mailer" (folded scraps of card and plastic bags) Turned up safely luckily www.discogs.com/release/1233...discogs.comGerry McClelland - South Wind And SpicesView credits, reviews, tracks and shop for the 1968 Vinyl release of "South Wind And Spices" on Discogs. 2100
MJ @grooves.bsky.social · 05/10/2026I've never actually seen Watership Down (put off by it involving animals and also "Bright Eyes") didn't know there was a Zardoz floating head in it 120
MJ @grooves.bsky.social · 05/10/2026Looks like an Italian guitar? @dimorphodons.bsky.social will know! Clearer pic here, but I can't read the headstock, "Bar" something? 030
