I love the feeling of diving into a software suite I don't know a thing about and slowly figuring it out to achieve the effect I want. And I didn't even have to rely on any LLM's to do it! It's not perfect, but I made it with my own two hands, and that's what matters.

CONNIE AND THE ESSENCE OF CHAOS: ⭐⭐⭐ Befitting its inspirations, Connie packs in lots of mechanical variety and tough platforming. With infinite lives and frequent-enough checkpoints, it's rarely daunting, but the latter bosses are too memorization-driven. Give it a shot if you want a challenge.

TOGETHER (2025): ⭐⭐⭐ Here's a movie with a premise that immediately grabbed my interest, and it does a good job of exploring that premise to its logical conclusion. It's such a shame that the first 30 minutes have some really hokey scares that make the rest of the movie hard to take seriously.

ARCANE DIMENSIONS: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ One of most famous Quake mods, and not without reason. Makes some much-needed balances to Quake's action, but its level-by-level nature doesn't make it very cohesive, and having a scavenger hunt for secrets in every level is pretty tiring. Still, unmissable for Quake fans.

🎃ghoulfella👻 @grogfel.la · 27/08/2026

DAWN OF THE MACHINE: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ MachineGames still has the sauce. This level set feels tense and unpredictable in a way I've never seen in Quake, with levels that are huge but never aimless. Having to replay some levels to see the ending isn't ideal, but other than that, this is phenomenal work.

JUMPING FLASH: ⭐⭐⭐ A really interesting branch on the family tree of 3D platformers and FPSes, with some of the best low-poly Little Guys in the business, and some forward-thinking mechanics. It's such a shame that the lack of strafing or lock-on makes combat a drag, especially in the maze levels.

MOOMINS ON THE RIVIERA: ⭐⭐ While the backgrounds do a great job of capturing Tove Jansson's art style, the movie doesn't have anything to say about its main subject, the climax is weak, and Little My is both woefully underutilized and kind of annoying. I liked the gay dog though.

THE PIRATES! BAND OF MISFITS: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Aardman movies are always a good time, and this one does not disappoint. This movie always kept me guessing, and the detailed sets and figures are a joy to watch. Not quite as inspired as Aardman's best, but still thoroughly enjoyable.

A LIAR'S AUTOBIOGRAPHY: ⭐⭐ A cute tribute to Chapman, but this one is more on the level of a reanimated collab on Youtube than a feature film. Only a few segments are especially well animated, and the movie doesn't have much of an identity of its own, content to just make Monty Python references.

BATMAN: THE ENEMY WITHIN ⭐⭐ An interesting take on Batman and The Joker's relationship is the only saving grace for yet another by-the-book Telltale drama. Once you notice the reused story beats, plot holes and cheap twists, this shit is impossible to take seriously.

PSYCHONAUTS 2: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ A worthy follow-up to a cherished classic, with tighter platforming, gorgeous environment art and lots of worldbuilding. Much more consistent and polished than the original, but doesn't quite reach the same highest highs. Still, this is a banger of a 3D platformer.

SUPER MARIO BROS. (1993): ⭐⭐ The fact that a movie like this got made is kind of a treasure in itself, they fully committed to a bad idea and tried their best to make it work. Cool set design, practical effects and early CGI, Bob Hoskins is always charismatic, but... yeah, this ain't it. #NESäkuu

PARKING GARAGE RALLY CIRCUIT: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Seemed a little shallow at first, but there is some hidden depth if you stick with it. Does a great job of urging the player to learn the tracks, get better and climb up those leaderboards. A great Steam Sale get, and I'll be picking up the DLC soon.

SKATE STORY: ⭐⭐⭐ If I were still in my 20's, I would have built my whole personality around this game. Great music, poetic writing and fun interactive music video sequences, but the core skating is just too shallow, and the campaign never demands the player to really master it. Good, not great.
