The outgoing Swedish government has failed at most things (unemployment is high, the defict is up, school results are down except one thing. Murder rates are actually down last 2 years. Hard to know exact reason though. Been wiggling around one since the 90s

Well I voted. Will be an exit poll at 2000 and then a decent guess at 2200 and at 2300 it will be definitely decided unless super close. My current guess on probabilities of results: Left/center majority 60% Left majority 35% Right majority 5% Will update as results come in

Gal Tan of Swedish politics! The lower right corner is governing. They will almost certainly lose. S in the lower left corner will have to try form a government, but how?

And now what you have been waiting for! Top wolf density regions! Västmanland 19 Örebro 10 Södermanland 10 This is all just west of Stockholm. They are drawn to the big city but they dont dare go too close

On the west coast furthest north is Göteborg then Halmstad, Helsingborg, Lund, Malmö. Finally the lone dot in the southeast is Växjö in the great forests of Småland. And w this little summary the thread ends.

Grodaeu @groda.eu · 08/09/2026
Then there is a Köping band on the path from Stockholm to Göteborg. Norrköping in the north then Linköping and finally Jönköping by the long lake.
100
Grodaeu @groda.eu · 08/09/2026
Further south one cannot name all w 50k+ but around the lake that feeds into the Baltic is Uppsala, Stockholm, Västerås, Eskilstuna. Then by the next lake west is Örebro and further west almost in Norway by the giant lake is Karlstad.
100
Grodaeu @groda.eu · 08/09/2026
Here is a summary map w all towns w>50k inh Furthest north is Umeå, then inland Östersund by the lake w the monster and by the coast Sundsvall with the sawmills. And south by the coast is Gävle of Christmas Goat fame marking the edge of the north.

Going south from Halland one ends up with the last and most southern region, Skåne.
200
Grodaeu @groda.eu · 08/09/2026
Going west from Karlskrona crossing the southern tip of the great forests of Småland one ends up in Halmstad in the region of Halland. Halmstad is by the sea on the west coast and mainly known for beaches.

South of Småland (Växjö/Kalmar) is Blekinge. It used to be Denmark. Until idk 400 years ago I think. It only has one town which is Karlskrona.
200
Grodaeu @groda.eu · 07/09/2026
Been going there several summers w the kids.
120
Grodaeu @groda.eu · 07/09/2026
But northeast from Kalmar is the island of Gotland, the worlds 167th largest island. Isnt that something? Its only town is Visby where half the islands population lives.
120
Grodaeu @groda.eu · 07/09/2026
Oh. I should include a little map. Anyway. idk what to say more about Kalmar. Historically on the Danish/Swedish border.

Grodaeu @groda.eu · 06/09/2026
South of Jönköping is Växjö. Two things are annoying here. First the region is not called Växjö but Kronoberg? And second Växjö, which is by a lake, isnt named Växsjö sjö being lake but Växjö which makes no sense

Grodaeu @groda.eu · 06/09/2026
Straight east from Göteborg you end up in Jönköping (town and region). This is back to the tried and tested region centered around town named after town concept.
100
Grodaeu @groda.eu · 05/09/2026
Going west from Östergötland one ends up w, you guessed it, Västra Götaland. Its a bizarre region. All the other regions are centered around the biggest town but not Västra Götaland nooo. The big town Göteborg is at the edge. Its suburbs stretch into the next region.
100
Grodaeu @groda.eu · 05/09/2026
Going south from Södermanland one ends up in Östergötland. This region has *two* notable towns. Linköping and Norrköping but theyre just 40km from each other so it wasnt worth the bother to make separate regions.
110
Grodaeu @groda.eu · 05/09/2026
Going southwest from Stockholm you end up in Södermanland. The land of the southern men. On account of being south of the Uppsala/Sigtuna/Birka historical thingie.

70km Southeast from Uppsala is Stockholm. Region and city share a name. By a wide margin the biggest city in Sweden. The region also has the 14th largest town in Sweden Södertälje which is an old port town. We do not talk about Sollentuna, SCB is wrong no way thats a separate town

Going east from Västmanland we arrive in Uppsala. Another region named from the only significant town. Uppsala is also on the lake Mälaren and is the 4th largest town in Sweden

To the East of Örebro is Västmanland. The land of the western men, on account of being west of the whole Uppsala/Sigtuna/Birka historic area.
100
Grodaeu @groda.eu · 03/09/2026
Going east from Värmland one ends up in Örebro. As one travels south the towns get bigger and the regions smaller so regions start to simply be named after the central town.

Slainte or something

Southwest of Dalarna is Värmland on the border with Norway. Oslo not too far away. The only notable town is Karlstad on the northern tip of a really quite large lake (largest in EU, 25% of Wales). Its another forest region. Forest, forest, forest.
120
Grodaeu @groda.eu · 02/09/2026
Going west from Gävle one ends up in Dalarna. There are only two proper towns in Dalarna. Borlänge and Falun. Both by a small lake just 80 km west from Gävle.

SCB har ett bra kartverktyg för såna diskussioner. Här är alla tätorter med minst 10 000 invånare i norr. Bra pub quiz grej och se om man kan namnge alla

Following the coast south is Gävleborgs. The only notable town just on the south tip of the region is Gävle. An old port town by the coast.

Going east from Östersund (which means eastern Strait) one ends up in Västernorrland (which means western northlands). I know it makes absolutely no sense but here we are.
210
Grodaeu @groda.eu · 01/09/2026
Continuing south there is Jämtland. Its a giant inland piece of mountain and forest. With almost no people. There is the only real inland town in the north, Östersund, by a big lake (named Storsjön-big lake) where there is rumors of a monster. West is Trondheim in norway.

Next one south is Västerbotten (so west of the gulf of Bothnia). It contains the biggest city in the north, Umeå, by the coast obviously but thats pretty much it.
110
Grodaeu @groda.eu · 31/08/2026
Ill start from the north with Norrbotten furthest to the north. It is gigantic, around 75% of England and v far to the north, the northern parts are north of Iceland.

And finally to the northwest the island Stäket which I think is largely a natural reserve makes a barrier preventing absorbing Kungsängen, pop 17k
000
Grodaeu @groda.eu · 29/08/2026
To the west there is water so Ekerö, pop 12k, will remain its own separate town
110
Grodaeu @groda.eu · 29/08/2026
To the southwest Tumba, pop 47k is some distance away but there is no forest no natural reserve no water so no obvious reason not to build some houses
