An apparently malicious group of alien visitors, the Garson Invaders had six limbs and a face that was described as a mixture of colours that La Sarza had never seen before. For a lack of further description the colours used for this illustration's face aren't impossibly mixed, a true shame.
[Top Section] Garson Invader; Region: Garson, Ontario, Canada

[Middle Section] A large dark blue-green creature loosely resembling a long arthropod. The creature has six limbs tipped with crab-like claws and a pair of antennae. Its face is a mix of colours with a large, singular yellow eye staring down. It appears to be glowing. Accompanied by descriptive text.

In 1954, three 13 ft (3.96 m) tall creatures exited a spherical ship, approaching the miner Ennio La Sarza.

Stopped La Sarza from fleeing with a "psychic blow".

Telepathically requested a task La Sarza refused, believing it malignant.

An initially subtle danger for mule trains traveling through mountainous areas. It was important to keep a good count, otherwise she could ease in and usher devastating panic to the trip.
[Top Section] Muladona; Alternate Name: Donamula; Region: Catalonia

[Middle Section] A brown mule, its head low. Peering from below its mane/hair, a human woman's face peers back. Accompanied by descriptive text.

She dwells in the mountains. She waits for passing mule trains to sneak into, often kept obscure by the dark of the night.

Sometimes believed to have been a woman cursed by a town into this form for her sins.

Her body is that of a mule's, while her head, hair, and breasts are human.

Some time after sneaking into a mule train, she instills a panic in the mules, causing a chaotic stampede.

Kilmoulis are frequently considered ugly, but benign and hard-working. There seems to be some sort of love divination ritual that can be done on Halloween involving a ball of thread, a pot, and a kilmoulis. The end result being the kilmoulis revealing the name of one's future spouse.
[Top Section] Kilmoulis; Region: Anglo-Scottish Border

[Middle Section] A small humanoid resembling an old man with a large nose and no mouth. Accompanied by descriptive text.

A type of brownie that live in a mill's killogie, said to haunt mills of the Anglo-Scottish border.

Their most distinctive features are their lack of mouth and their large nose with notably large nostrils.

Swine meat is a favourite meal for them, and like all food they consume it must be shoved up their gaping nostrils.

Staunch workers when well respected and fed, however they aren't strangers to pulling lighthearted pranks and mischief regardless.

Pay keen attention to the mill and its miller, and will cry out with great sorrow when disaster approaches either.

Would only leave the mill for two jobs: thrashing corn when no workers were available, and riding to town to get the midwife, though the horse will be handled quite roughly.

A beast that descends from above. Mysterious gate guardians, as long as one has no wicked intentions or an air of thoughtless recklessness, encountering one should not be a worry.
[Top Section] Otoroshi; Alternate Names: Odoro odoro, Keippai; Region: Japan

[Middle Section] The creature leans over, its upper body partially hanging off the top section into the middle section. Its entire dorsal area is covered with thick, long hair, its two-fingered hands and parts of its face are all that is visible underneath. Its skin is blue, and a pair of tusks stick out from its large open mouth. Accompanied by descriptive text.

A hairy, four-legged yokai with long tusks. Typically depicted as blue, it may also be yellow.

Typically spends its time hidden atop roofs or torii gates, unseen.

Known primarily as shrine guardians.

Upon someone wicked or similarly disrespectful attempting to enter shrine grounds where one is present, an otoroshi will quickly descend upon the offender.

A mysterious, at least partially aquatic, beast that is sometimes believed to be a bunyip. The latter party described it as having a yellowish belly and perhaps some sort of great serpent.
[Top Section] Euroa Beast; Region: Wylonemby, near Euroa, Victoria, Australia

[Middle Section] A somewhat long beast with somewhat reptilian limbs and a bulldog-like head. Accompanied by descriptive text.

A creature encountered out in a swampy area seemingly known as Wylonemby. The Euroa Beast was believed to be around 30 ft (9.14 m) long and had a face resembling a bulldog's.

Had two major sightings in 1890, with the second being a party attempting to capture the beast. They failed, and the creature was last seen slithering into a fallen tree trunk before disappearing.

River monsters capable of dragging animals as heavy as elephants down into the depths of the Ganges. Boasting both a firm grasp and a hefty bite, the ceruleum lurks beneath the river surface.
[Top Section] Ceruleum; Alternate Names: Caeruleum, Ceruleo; Region: Medieval European legend placed in the Ganges, India

[Middle Section] A long cerulean fish with green-tinted fins and a grey-blue underbelly. Instead of pectoral fins, large rugged, muscular arms grasp upwards. Accompanied by descriptive text.

A true monster of a fish, described as reaching lengths of up to 90 ft (27.4 meters).

A ceruleum's arms are typically said to be at least 9 ft (2.7 m) long.

Named after its colouration, identified as cerulean.

Boasts great strength in both jaws and arms. It famously can bite into the trunk of an elephant, followed by dragging its prey down into the river depths.

Duckfooted dum-dum - [FearsomeCritter] - Fish not biting? Thats probably because the dumdum was scared off by noisy game hunters. This creature joyfully beats its back like a timpani drum using its tails, signalling spawning season for the fish! No dumdum? No fish! - samkalensky.com/products/duc...
a creature with a drum for a back, scales on its legs & webbed feet it is a duck footed dum dum! walking along the side of my pondsamkalensky.com - 2020Yarns of the big woods 1922 -
“Not much fish in the lake this summer,” said the old guide sadly, as he rowed with his party across the sun-flecked water where the glistening fish were supposed to be waiting hungrilly for some one to offer them bait.
“What's the matter?” asked the “chap from the city,” on his first trip into the Big Woods.
“Those know-it-all game wardens scared the duck-footed dum-dum away, that's what. Ever see a dum-dum? Funny animal. Comes around every spring. He has two tails like bass-drum sticks and swings them like lightning, beating on the tight drum-like skin on his back.”
“Well, when the fish hear this they all flock near the shore in shallow water and lay their eggs. They wouldn't know it was spawning season if they didn't hear the dum-dum. Then after they lay their eggs they go away and the dum-dum keeps watch until all the little fish are hatched out.”
“So you see when those pesky game wardens come spying around and scare off the dum-dum, we don't get any fish.” And the guide pulled glumly at his little black pipe.

[Top Section] Baum-Rappit; Region: Rochdale, Lancashire, England

[Middle Section] A pale white rabbit. Accompanied by descriptive text.

The feared rabbit of the Baum, it was apparently encountered in the churchyard of the Church of St. Mary in the Baum.

Large beasts that are cowed by the presence of innocent children, fearing it will be beaten. Otherwise, it is a formidable creature that aggressively attacks many a man or animal.
[Top Section] Molosus; Alternate Names: Meloso, Mollosus, Molocius, Molosso, Molossus; Region: Medieval European Legend

[Middle Section] A grey-furred quadruped beast with a prominent grin full of sharp teeth. A mane of darker fur is set from atop its head to around the back of its jawline. Accompanied by descriptive text.

Actively hostile beasts mentioned in some medieval bestiaries.

Key features seem to include massive grinning smiles with great, prominent teeth.

May have some relation or basis in Ancient Greece's dog breed of the same name, also known as the Molossian hound, however the molosus is only ever described as a wild beast.

These beasts fear only children, and shy away from them lest they be beat down.

Sometimes described as small, round bipeds with limbs as thin and long as needles. Take care not to accidentally bring harm to one.
[Top Section] Kudo-Kudo; Region: The Philippines

[Middle Section] A ovular, hairy biped with exceptionally skinny arms and legs. Its eyes are beady white dots. Flying around the creature are several mosquitoes. Accompanied by descriptive text.

A type of lamang lupa of Bicolano folklore. Kudo-kudo are typically never seen.

Supposedly named after the odd sound of their footsteps.

Has a following of mosquitoes, and prefers hiding away in damp and dark locations, typically coming from the woods and fields into homes.

Like to sneak into the kitchen at night and eat salt.

If injured on accident, they will afflict the perpetrator with high fevers accompanied by shivers.

These riverside spirits, like the goddess Mari, subsist on the concept of eza, negation in the terms of calculated and declared amounts of material goods. Particularly they will take the difference in amount between how much someone claims they have and how much they actually had.
[Top Section] Lamina; Alternate Names: Lamiña, Lamia; Region: The Basque Country

[Middle Section] A woman in a white dress with long, golden hair and duck feet. In one hand she carries a golden comb. Accompanied by descriptive text.

Mostly nocturnal nature spirits. The men are typically dwarf-like or elf-like, although the more widespread laminak depictions are women with lower bodies having animal traits. This can range from a fish tail, to bird feet (typically chicken or duck), or goat hooves.

Live in caverns or near rivers or springs. Female laminak are said to be seen brushing their hair with golden combs.

Build bridges and dolmens overnight, though if a stone is found missing one morning, it means they have left their river, typically because of a church being built in the woods.

A nightly weeper, the yonaki baba may be drawn to or forewarn household calamity. Regardless of if she sobs or cackles, the misery she is around is unmistakable.
[Top Section] Yonaki Baba; Alternate Name: Nakibaba; Region: Japan

[Middle Section] A short old woman on her knees with ragged hair and a garment that too large for her. The bags under her eyes are dark from constant tears and her mouth is agape in something that is either a smile and a frown. Accompanied by descriptive text.

A yokai in the form of a weeping old woman who appears at night. Some say she cries genuinely, others say she is mocking mourners, perhaps even laughing through her tears.

Yonaki baba appears after, or perhaps even before, a household's tragedy.

Those who hear her weeping will also find themselves crying in kind.

Continuous nightly visits from her is an ill omen, as even just three nights in a row is a guarantee of misfortune.

Tons of amazing artists/makers will be at Mononoke Ichi in Kyoto on July 19-20. Don't miss out on the year's best yokai market! I will be there with a few copies of my new book (while supplies last). See you in Kyoto! #モノノケ市 #モノノケ市2607
