The stereoscope, a device that creates the illusion of three-dimensional images, was presented to the Royal Society by Charles Wheatstone on this day in 1838. To mark the anniversary, we are joining the Brian May Archive of Stereoscopy in celebrating the fifth International Stereoscopy Day.

We've recently collaborated with Julia Vidile (juliavidile.com) to produce a free interactive game exploring the objects of daily life from Tutankhamun's tomb through the adventures of Mary (an archivist from today) and Mery (an Egyptian priest who lived during Tutankhamun's reign)!

Happy 151st Birthday to Howard Carter, born on this day in 1874! To mark the occasion this year, we are sharing Carter's watercolour of a 'Theban landscape with figures and tent', which is said to have hung above his desk in his house, 'Carter Castle II', at Thebes.
