#WorldAtoZ 21 Rockfort Not exactly ska, but I'm accepting no complaints about ska-rting the week with this classic, named after Rockfort, a 17th century fortification in eastern Kingston, Jamaica, closely associated with the music scene there. www.youtube.com/watch?v=xRap...

Evgeny Mravinsky premiered Shostakovich's Symphony No. 5 on November 21, 1937, in Leningrad with the Leningrad Philharmonic Orchestra. This 1983 recording captures his final performance of Shostakovich's 5th Symphony.

#WorldAToZ R >> Russia Dmitri Shostakovich Symphony No 5 in D minor, Op 47 Evgeny Mravinsky Leningrad Philharmonic Orchestra Minsk, 1983 Written under Stalin’s death threats, Symphony 5 is a forced apology. The tragic largo mourns his purged friends, while the slow finale mimics forced rejoicing.

No, but some of my best friends are from there, and I've been really into teas for years. :)

But I'm behind in listening to your things right now. Same reason as always.

And by the way I have to catch up. I am behind on listening. Tomorrow afternoon if all goes to plan, I will have a bsky music catch up. It's great to hear people's choices that I never heard which seems to be like most things

All the better. And we can buy each other virtual matcha tea instead of cokes :)

Yay that Challenges force research sometimes. And oh have you turned me on to a fair share of gems :)

Just blew me away. Without this challenge no way would I ever have learned about her. So yay for challenge!

#WorldAToZ Q >> Qatar Fatma Shaddad Gharby Hawakom ya ahl el Doha 1988 New for me and amazing. She formed the country's first-ever female band in the 1980s, breaking barriers by recording work songs historically sung by women as they watched the coast for returning pearl divers
