That’s a wrap 🎬 Huge thanks to everyone who bundled up for Edward Scissorhands at the Presidio — the perfect finale to this season of Sundown Cinema! This series wouldn’t have been possible without the support of Waymo, MUBI, and PIER 39 ✨ 📸: Amanda Andrade-Rhoades

We’ve acquired @charterworks.com — a big step forward for The Standard. We’re also welcoming Charter CEO Kevin Delaney — cofounder of Quartz and former WSJ and NYT editor — as our editor-in-chief. Together, we’re building a newsroom that reflects where San Francisco — and the world — is headed.

But more than that, you're investing in a news organization that's doing things differently—one that's as dynamic and innovative as San Francisco itself. We started The Standard because I believe this extraordinary city deserves better than ad-cluttered websites and confusing subscription schemes.

“At $29 annually (good luck with churn on $129 annual in 2nd year) this makes steeper the climb to the 3M additional subs needed to fill the $100M hole that Bezos & Will dug deeper this past year. Obviously, the right strategy here is to offer essential VALUE, not discounts, to drive subscribers.”

So here's my thing—we don't play games with our pricing or our coverage. It's one rate with no wild promotions. We think it's a fair price for the value that we deliver to this city and for our dream to keep going well into the future.

I fully appreciate that budgets are tight and that for some $9 a month is a stretch. I also understand that other publishers will dupe readers into "cheaper" subscriptions that are sold at 99 cents for a few months then auto-renew at a much higher price.
