Visit London. Find a Manchester brewery tap takeover. In a Yorkshire glass.

When the little git has been away two nights, you're not moving him so you can go to bed.

Second new venue of the weekend (because I was literally a month early last time) is East London Brewing Co. As you'd expect, hazy pints, outdoor seating, dogs, beards, sandals...

Thankfully, Gravity Well had some decent beers on, and all the Wednesday fans were in Wetherspoons, apparently.

Main point of trekking to Bermondsey this time was to try the newest bar, Big Hug Social, which has taken Gosnells' pitch at 72 Enid Street (next door to Cloudwater). And at just before 9pm on a Friday it is *completely empty*

Bianca Road Brew Co at Bermondsey has had a massive refurb. Not sure what to think of it. It's a professional look, but the new logo and tap room are just a bit..... sterile. Beer is still good, though. Pickle lager, because why not?

Adventure time. Two trains and a bus (and a ten minute walk) got me to a brewery tap that was previously thought unreachable by public transport.

People are getting hot and bothered in the UK already today. So here's a picture of New Floof to calm people down.

Nothing quite like doing a jigsaw during a heatwave. Is there, Jack? (Jack is playing the old man cat card. Not allowed on tables, not allowed in puzzle boxes, zero fucks given)

Cat sitting some of the neighbours foster kittens. I think I may be stuck here forever. Send food.

If any birds, rodents, or very small people would like a shower in this heat, one of my water butts has picked today to spring a leak. DM for address. (is there a more middle-aged statement then "one of my water butts"?)

Like a moth to a flame, I've found the only craft beer bar in Kos Town. Up to 60 Greek craft beers (subject to availability). Yamas!

Pretty Decent Beer Co, not new to Blackhorse, but a good pizza stop. Heaving. And I feel old. This is my happy place, though. Could stay here all night.

First of which is a new (second) home FOR Hackney Church. Ngl I walked past this twice (it's literally next to a car workshop and had a coming soon sign). Where else can you find a pulpit and hymn list inside a basic 21st century industrial unit.

... And yet it's taken until 5pm to get here. More board games and a definite family vibe going on. Bright and airy thanks to the big glass frontage. (Cue image of my beer from the darkest corner inhabited only by solo drinkers)

Brisk walk east, through an unexpected hail shower, and we find Gravity Well. Another railway arch 😍 right under Leytonstone Midland Road Station, potentially more of which later. This was a must do from last time when I discovered how accessible it was to/from Blackhorse Road...

First two taps I tried (both sours) went off mid pour. No fault, it happens, and they upgraded me to a full pint of something else, which is nice. But it does mean the first unbranded generic pint glass of the weekend.

Another two trains and a short walk along Lea Bridge Road brings us to Blondies Brewery. Some sort of converted engineering yard I guess? Completely out of place, but doing a cracking trade (and a great array of food) Majority their own wears.

Hackney Wick. Largely a building and graffiti site, it appears. Tucked away is Howling Hops who serve all their beers straight from the tank. Definitely industrial inside, but the beer is great.

Quick loop back on the Victoria, Northern and Windrush lines to Peckham Rye and the final destination tonight. Brick Brewery. No longer truly independent since admin in 2023 but still alive.

Is there anything to do when presented with a 14.6% Dessert Ale self-described as their craziest beer, other than suck it up?

Which brings us to London Beer Lab tap room and Nano Brewery. Just about railway arch, without the arch. Outstanding range of beers (29 on tap. 30th tap empty. Outrageous.) Some decent tshirt merch (I'm in peak merch buying territory now)

Inside it's clean, spacious, and again focusing on their own stuff. (I've never had any Distortion up north so this is a good test) God tier snacks, board games, and a pub dog that eluded photos.

10 minute walk through what can only be described as South London light industry finds Distortion Brewing and the first railway arch of the weekend. Love a railway arch.

But inside it's genuine. Sensible number of taps, with their own stuff and a couple of collabs. Dart board, board games, unintrusive music. Tasting paddles (that, as normal, I didn't spot until I'd ordered). What's not to like.

It's London weekend. Spending the Friday evening investigating a handful of the more out of the way brewery taps. Stating with Mondo in Battersea, which from the outside (and the view across the road) looks like it comes wi h a risk of stabbing.

Today 4 years ago, diesel was 13p a litre more expensive, so there some way to go yet.

State of this. Each one of these ramps is marked up with a different combination of train type and operator. There are no easily identifiable duplicates. This is what 30+ years of fragmented railway procurement leaves you with. Waste on an incredible scale.

Wobbly Duck. Last city centre bar of the day (there are others, skipped with an eye on time and sobriety) another small basement bar. Cosy, and with merch. Featured beer is from Azvex.

Mean eyed cat. Not on v1 of the plan, but showed up with all four of the Polly's 8th birthday collabs. Therefore, a must visit for me. This is the Rivington collab, a fruits of the forest gateau pastry sour. Much more than the generic purple beer it appears to be.

Town Mouse. Very difficult to spot basement bar. Tip I was given for Newcastle: if it has an animal in the name, it does good beer. (photo: Holy Goat Spectral Lore (Tayberry sour)
