So that's it. I may add 11+ but IDK, I'm not that interesting. Hope you enjoyed.

Here's the playlist. I'll probably add to it, so if you're into a playlist that is all over the place, stop here.

#10 - Every Kendrick diss track. That's it. They're all nuts. Honorable mention: E.D.A. ft. Conan O'Brien - Velkommen Til Klubben Song is just pure positivity, and the episode of Conan O'Brien Must Go was absolutely perfect.

#9 - The Antlers - Hospice This one has been dear to me for years. We had many close calls with hard losses this year. I've been fortunate to support those I care about this year. A hard goodbye is the inevitability of love. Albums like this, while beautiful, are sonic sorrow but temper the soul.

#8 - Built to Spill - Keep It Like a Secret Not even new to many, but was new to me this year. I'm amazed constantly of the troves of music I've enjoyed that has been there in front of me waiting to be found.

#7 - Creepy Nuts - Otonoke and Bling-Bang-Bang-Born This is cheating, two songs, both of them are absolute masterpieces. Not an album, just two very mighty earworms.

#6 - Father John Misty - Mahashmashana It's good in all of the ways it usually is. I didn't like "Screamland" the first time I heard it, and now I love it. The sound of ennui but paired with an understanding that nothing matters as a freeing truth.

#5 - WHY? - The Well I Fell Into Growing old sucks, and sometimes the parts that suck are a muse. Marigold is a hard listen but it's true. If you're looking to sad it up, without going full Antlers, then this is bus to hop on.

#4 - Aesop Rock - Integrated Tech Solution This man only makes good music. Put in ears. Let beat and lyrics do the rest. "100 Feet Tall" is the best anecdote about why meeting your heroes is sometimes exactly what you expect.

#3 - mewithoutyou - Ten Stories These guys have always done special vignettes deep with introspective self critique. This album chronicling the adventures of escaped circus animals hits right.

#1 - Nilüfer Yanya - My Method Actor It's just a good sound to chill to. Sometimes Spotify's algo drops a good one.

That said, the following is just me being honest - Here's new/old music I found or revisted this year. My "top 10 albums I enjoyed this year that I just really liked" for 2024. Not even rated. Just good vibes. So now, just in the order I thought of them...

Back when I was younger, I used to make an annual list of my favorite albums each year. Admittedly, some portion of this was a desire to boost obscure bands as much as shoehorn them into the list higher rated than I felt to validate the fact that I just liked weird music and wanted to share...

#SpotifyWrapped is nuts this year. Hilariously a bit from Conan O' Brien Must Go is my most played song...

Great, now you're never going to be able to reach it to take it down...

It seems like nowhere has any meaningful quantity of singles, and sealed product itself is like 1.5-2x as a expensive as it was 5-10 years ago. May be unreliable memory, but not great in RCQ season unless you're VERY enfranchised. Bummer because the format is actually decent. @magic.wizards.com

Stores are less incentivized to open old product as well. This adds an inverse velocity to card availability where actually playing paper standard is entirely predicated on your willingness to open large quantities of standard product yourself, which is generally a bad financial move.

Finding a really interesting aspect of the accelerated release schedule for MTG product is a lack of cards on the secondary market. I connect these in that people buy/open less product of sets which aren't the newest drop, and therefore trade in less of that product.

Public service reminder if you're watching The Muppet Christmas Carol on Disney+: Go to Extras and select the "Full Length Version" to include the cut song "When Love is Gone" back into the film.

Dude we just watched "The Night is Young, Walk on Girl" and it was an absolute gem. A masterpiece of animation and storycraft from Science Saru.

I do love that WotC gives us the joy of opening Mogis in our Mythic slot on Arena.

You may not like it, but this is what optimal looks like: #ValueVintageMTG is sick. @fireshoes.bsky.social for shiggles.

Overall, the format opens the door for some powerful interactions that are normally shut down in more open card pools. Having to budget for cards like Bolt/StP etc adds an engaging layer to deckbuilding.
