How long have these attitudes spurred the slow degradation of worker's rights in cinema? 140
grendelkhan.bsky.social @grendelkhan.bsky.social · 26/08/2026of catching 1 criminal, but Odysseus “breaking hospitality” with the Trojan Horse was just what the Greek invaders wanted. There’s no greater good served like it supposedly was (in Nolan’s thinking) with Batman or Oppenheimer -defeating Troy was a bad thing in the first place. No Nolan-heroism here 000
grendelkhan.bsky.social @grendelkhan.bsky.social · 26/08/2026Great analysis of the Nolan-Hero! It gets at why the Odysseus of the movie is literally the opposite of Homer’s. But what is Odysseus breaking the rules for? Batman creates a surveillance state (which was basically a justification of Bush Jr’s post-Patriot Act surveillance state) for the “heroism”.. 100

grendelkhan.bsky.social @grendelkhan.bsky.social · 29/07/2026Some of that for sure. But I think ending the poem with Hektor's burial after watching Achilleus treat Hektor's body with such horrid disrespect that even the Gods come down and tell him to stop, shows a deep respect for the Trojans. Achilleus' behavior is a metaphor for what the Greeks did to Troy. 060
grendelkhan.bsky.social @grendelkhan.bsky.social · 28/07/2026Yes! Homer inclusion of Andromache's conversation with Hektor lamenting that she's going to end up enslaved by the Greek invaders is an artistic choice that definitely is critical of slavery. The whole poem is, actually. 1211

grendelkhan.bsky.social @grendelkhan.bsky.social · 20/07/2026The entire poem begins with Agamemnon stealing Achilles' warprize - a woman kidnapped from a Trojan city and kept as a slave. The Iliad is viciously consistent in its depiction of the Greeks as looters, rapists, and thieves whose petty squabbles nearly rip apart their own army. No brotherhood there. 011
grendelkhan.bsky.social @grendelkhan.bsky.social · 20/07/2026Yes! Achilles was weaned on war, sailing to Troy as a teen. He sacrifices his fellow Greeks for his own ego. This is not a message talking about the "comaraderie of soldiers" and is quite the opposite. The Iliad is essentially an anti-war poem that ends with the burial of Hektor, a Trojan victim. 100
