Not patrol. Monitoring. Warnings, are evaluated against many other inputs in order to deduce alert level. Being on the highest alert 365 days a year is meaningless. But sure. Oct 7th is the most shameful day in IDF history. IDF and Bibi are to blame. Gaza still celebrates its tremendous victory.

Just not true. There were even absurd cases where the armory was locked and all the soldiers with a key were on holiday vacation. A very shameful day for IDF.

Soldiers that their entire job is to watch a monitor are unarmed. The core directive is simple. You are a platoon. Surprisingly engaged on the border. One or few soldiers are captured and the enemy tries to flee with them. Shoot the vehicle even if it risks the soldiers. That's all there is to it.

Expendable to whom? To a single settler commander? Maybe. The point is that although the Hannibal directive is real, it was completely irrelevant during Oct 7th. The massacre of 1200 was fully committed by Hamas. Even in this incident, these hostages would have likely died by Hamas combatants.

No. This single incident happened late in the afternoon. Long after the massacre of nearly 1200 in the morning. It was heavily criticized inside Israel, partially because the commander was a right wing settler and the casualties were left wing kibbutz citizens.
