Most of the founding fathers owned slaves and most rock stars may not have asked for ID from groupies, but knew some were very young. Both things were accepted in their respective cultures. Full credit for those that didn't, half credit for those who changed their attitudes and behavior.

The founding fathers used the Roman Republic as a model because it lasted over half a century before it became a dictatorship. The warnings about how the US could fail as a democracy are drawn mainly from the example of Rome.

There is a reason that Thomas Aquinas had to write "The Summa Theologiae" to reconcile Aristotle with Platonic Catholicism before the Enlightenment could be backed by the Church.

That's because Plato and Aristotle lived when "philosophy" encompassed the natural world. Plato is the patron saint of Christianity while Aristotle is the patron saint of science.

Plato was the one who searched for answers in his own mind while Aristotle was an empiricist who studied what was happening in the real world to reach conclusions.

Woke and DEI are both the result of taking the Golden Rule seriously. Jesus claimed it was one of only two teaching which were important from (then) scripture. "Conservative" Christians are determined to do the opposite.

Who teaches it and with what prejudice, that's the problem. With 35,000 Protestant denominations, many of which are not considered "Christian" by others, plus Catholics and various strains of Jewish and Orthodox, not to mention agnostic s and atheists, there will be endless fights.

"hoping to drive its many followers back to the mainstream church" Really, your reporter believes the heretics can read the Pope's mind? He gave them a path back to Roman Catholicism, which he does for everyone in the world. I'm shocked at such an obvious journalism error.

The founding fathers were largely brilliant people who were well versed in the history of democracy in Greece and Rome. For that alone their input should be welcome. In addition they tried to devise a system which would not devolve into tyranny like the Roman Republic did after half a millennium.

Sorry to be pedantic but the tax on tea was removed in favor of a tax on paper, which the colonists saw as an attack on free speech. Why pick on untaxed tea then? It might be because Samuel Adams, who led the Boston tea party, made a lot of money smuggling tea due to the prior tax.

Most slave owners did rape their slaves. In Jefferson's case I object to using the plural of "slave" as speculation. Sally Hemmings was his wife's half sister, because Martha Jefferson's father raped the slaves, plural. After Martha died an old friend visiting Jefferson in Paris was shocked seeing

My own theory is that, as Trump dithers, the Gulf States will make their own deals with Iran which will include kicking out the US. Deprived of their bases, the war will end.

A key demand of Iran was that they would stop attacking Gulf countries if they kicked the US military out. I think a backroom deal among the Muslim protagonists, likely brokered by China, will kick the US out of the region and end the war.
