its very true that in this game, difficulty is largely a function of how long the journey is. FL, and the route it has to take are rough

@kleinman.bsky.social 's work inspired me to dramatize the future Republicans want as an Oregon Trail -like journey across a country ravaged by rightwing legislative extremism. It sucks! games.gregpollock.net/state-of-the...

it was doubly heartwarming bc a lot of the coaches were Boomer-age British men, the population who in my experience are most in need of therapy and farthest from getting it. At least within the context of youth football they understood social-emotional learning

I was watching youtubes about coaching physical contact for U10 soccer and while the video titles are all intensity and aggression, it was nice to see how the coaches understand the kids' need for psychological safety to deal with a stressful/scary/upsetting part of the game (also why i was doing it

There are plenty of AI scams to go around, but Jev provided the opportunity to study brand impersonation under pretty much ideal conditions (social pressure creating urgency, brand new and fairly unique name). And yeah, impersonators move fast! www.upguard.com/breaches/jev...

Jev's first lookalike domain appeared the day after launch. Within two weeks there were over a hundred. Here's how fast brand impersonation follows a viral AI model.

It's a worrying measure of how tightly coupled the economic incentives are across the AI supply chain if they are waving away the cop who wants to come in because they heard someone screaming.

Another open question is whether this rate will sustain. Are old Oracle products so bug ridden that 10x more vulnerabilities will be discovered every quarter? Or did this clean out the backlog?

While the data is clear on whether this is an anomaly, the AI story is more ambiguous. Oracle would certainly like us to believe this is the result of new AI capabilities–which happen to run on infrastructure they sell.

The other thing of note is that these aren't just old CVEs that they have rolled up, or third-party CVEs getting counted because they affect Oracle products. The surge is driven by very recently discovered vulnerabilities in Oracle products.

Compared to previous Oracle updates, there are meaningfully and obviously more in this one (about 10x). Other tech vendors have seen bumps, which could be attributable to AI-assisted discovery, in the last quarter, but Oracle's is the largest.

Oracle's massive Critical Patch Update with 1,235 CVEs looks impressive on paper, but it's easy to mislead with stats. So I ran the numbers on whether it was an accounting trick or anomaly. And it looks like there's really something in it www.upguard.com/blog/oracle-...

Wired has that dawg in them. For as long as I've worked with Dell (since Gizmodo) he has been strongly averse to being pushed around. I love it.
