I found a toy rat outside the ceramics studio. He now lives on my shelf with all my other packrat stuff.

Monday morning glaze tests look promising, except for a few. Glaze changes in the studio aren’t always met with open arms but that’s okay. Materials change and studios need to adapt.

Finally, a day in the studio. I decided to make a few succulent planters, an incense burner and a new food dish for the dog.

Every now and then I have to sit down and throw a few bowls to let students know I have some pottery skills. There are always some doubters. These are for charity; my favorite reason to make bowls.

Stopped by the Adrian Center for the Arts letterpress studio to drop off a chase for my old Vandercook press. Since I’ll be in Adrian on a regular basis I purchased a membership.

I’ve been tasked with reorganizing the glaze layering test tiles. Displaying 100s of glaze tests on the wall can overwhelm new students. I created a more intimate and tactile experience. Samples are hands on so they can be viewed up close and personal.

Creative Flow: Writing Amidst Daily Chaos
I keep reading that writers should have a dedicated space to work without distractions. Serious writers probably do this, especially if it's their primary source of income. I write for my own enjoyment in an old country house built in 1879. You might think living in the country would be peaceful where everyone sits in their rockers on the front porch sipping lemonade.

Navigating Turbulence: Humor and Integrity in Government Work
When I fly I like to sit at the back of the airplane. It's loud back there next to the rear engines but the sound is soothing to me. I put my books and water bottle in the back pocket of the seat in front of me, and make sure there's a barf bag there. I've never gotten sick on a plane but I have a fear of vomiting, which then creates a scene where everyone starts barfing around me.

That’s exciting! One of the benefits of working at the school is the freedom to play around with glaze chemistry.

Finding Joy in Clay: My Artistic Path to Mental Health
Retirement from the Federal Bureau of Prisons couldn't come soon enough. It was the bureaucracy that drove me mad. I took the job out of necessity. It wasn't easy finding a job during the 1990's recession. I was fortunate because working in law enforcement is recession proof. The business of crime never slows down. I retired in 2019 with ambitious thoughts of starting a printmaking/letterpress business, but things didn't turn out as planned.

I spent some time at an art reception at Matthaei Botanical Gardens. Mingling isn’t my strong suit so I found a comfortable chair by the bonsai and read my book.

Also, I was just there and feel like they have more work to do. It seemed disorganized. The local small business book stores do a great job with organizing categories.

Breaking Free: Leaving Meta, X and Amazon Behind, part two
Facebook was deleted. Threads was too. I unsubscribed from Amazon Prime a few weeks ago. A friend recently said, "Facebook felt dirty". I feel the same way. A lot of my friends are moving to Bluesky (my tag is 3gperez). They recently announced a new photo sharing app is coming soon. When that happens I'm deleting Instagram. People say, "I can't leave Meta or X because all my friends and family are there." That's cool.

Dropped off some art in Adrian so I stopped by my old hang out. Picked up two cigars and a bag of popcorn. I sure wish they still sold magazines. I’m on the hunt for a place that sells a big variety.

When Bezos made a contribution to the Trump inauguration I canceled my Amazon Prime membership. Soon after I went to Barnes and Noble to look for a book. It felt like taking a trip down memory lane. I realized how much I really missed bookstores. I’m not going back to Prime. Kick rocks Bezos.
