The audio version of THE PUTNAMS OF SALEM is finally out, and I’m so grateful to have worked on it with my daughter Addy. I'm so proud of how she voiced Ann Putnam (and so many others!) She is the absolute best! Check it out: www.audible.com/pd/The-Putna...

While Trump will surely continue to provide countless shameful moments over the next few years, amplifying the racist right-wing fever dream about a “genocide” taking place against the Afrikaners to the South African president in the Oval Office is pretty vile.

So far, the Salem Witch Trials Podcast has focused specifically on the crisis in Mass in 1692, as well as the context surrounding it. But we might take a wider view in the next season. Certainly open to it.

I know people say this a lot now, but imagine going back 20 years and explaining to Americans that in 2025, the US president would be demanding that Canada become the 51st state. Pure insanity.

The on again/off again/on again/off again tariffs are irrefutable truth that Trump has absolutely no idea what he’s doing. What a clown show!

Ann Pudeator was a twice-widowed, single woman of means who often cared for the sick. Yet it was these seemingly ordinary traits that likely led to her conviction as a witch in 1692. Next week, we'll tell Ann's story. Catch up on all our episodes here: gregoryhoule.podbean.com

It’s entertaining to watch MAGA twist themselves into knots trying to justify Trump’s madness. Sure, taking over Gaza is very ‘America First!’

For Trump to immediately blame DEI hiring and previous administrations, before we even know the first thing about what happened last night, is cowardly and sick. I don't care what your politics are, nobody should be proud of a president who does something like that.

I’ve produced more than 30 episodes of The Salem Witch Trials Podcast and Mary Easty was one of the most courageous women involved. She wrote petitions that exposed the witch hunt for the massive miscarriage of justice that it was. Next week, we'll tell her story. I hope you’ll check it out.

Elizabeth Howe seemed just like any other hard-working Puritan in seventeenth-century New England, but her past came back to haunt her once the witch crisis exploded in the spring of 1692. Check out the latest episode of The Salem Witch Trials Podcast gregoryhoule.podbean.com/e/elizabeth-...

Mercy Lewis was 19. Also, John Indian was an adult male who claimed to be afflicted. Ann Putnam, Sr. was another adult who claimed to be afflicted. There were others too as the hysteria spread.

I think that would be interesting. As a side note, I've always found it interesting how Puritanism was completely finished in England well before 1692, but these settlers in Massachusetts were trying to keep it going. It was a dying religion and they must have known it by then too.

Yes, there are professional historians who are still working on the topic. I know one who is currently working on the aftermath of the witch crisis, which is vastly understudied. And of course historical analysis tends to evolve over the years so there are revisions of previous thought.

That's a great point. The court was ultimately shut down by the governor, in part, because the intellectuals in Boston at the time were chattering with their friends in Europe about how insane it all was.

I can say for certain that the Salem Witch Trials have not been totally exhausted. There's so much more work that needs to be done to properly understand why this happened, as well as what was left behind in its wake. The common perception that it was a simple event is entirely incorrect.
