Of the 11,000+ people who have held a US House seat, just 11 have served in the chamber longer than Hal Rogers (R-Kentucky) and Chris Smith (R-New Jersey). Rogers and Smith entered the House together in January 1981 and are tied for 12th as of today, having eclipsed Adolph J. Sabath (D-Illinois).
