guilty pleasures, or outright awful?

Greg Dember @gregdember.bsky.social · 27/09/2026

Until now, I hadn't even heard OF it. We have so many siloed musical styles and subcultures now – to be someone who knows a little about what's going on in all of them is its OWN subculture called "professional music journalist." For expecting everybody to know the song, RS is in a silo itself.

Here is a video conversation I hosted with three authors of metamodern fiction: Tope Folarin, Daniel L. Garner and Peter Clarke. Each in his own way combines a playful experimentalism with a caring stance towards their characters. youtu.be/kmM67SbhXEI

Well, it doesn't have a URL at all. It wants me to respond to katefarelll@gmail.com (3 Ls). My suspicion is "she" will back and forth with me and develop a rapport and at some point ask for money to pay for some unforeseen cost. I almost replied asking for proof of reality, but I think I won't even.

Uggh. Got an email I originally thought was legit asking my approval to spotlight my book on Goodreads. Then I noticed some sus details. So a scam? But, dang, the message included some impressive specificity. That's just AI, right? I'm not passing up an opportunity by ignoring it, right? RIGHT?

Oh I forgot to say: at each spot where I said "hold 30 seconds" if things are still spinning at 30 seconds, keep the position until the spinning stops. Now do the same thing but to the Left. Wait 15 minutes and do both sides again. OK, that's it.

110

Greg Dember @gregdember.bsky.social · 24/08/2026

- Hold the above position for 30 seconds - Come up on your hands with your back and head parallel to the floor but still facing to the right. Hold 30 seconds - Come back up to the original position on your knees. still facing to the right. Hold for 30 seconds.

110

Greg Dember @gregdember.bsky.social · 24/08/2026

That sounds like a different one. I will try to tell you the one I know, it works. - Kneel, with your body upright otherwise. Tilt your head back for 10 seconds. - Bend forward as if you're starting a summersault, but stop w/ the top of your head resting on the floor. Turn your face 2 the right.

I'm not justifying it, but I think Biden was very "A good President honors the contracts of his predecessors, even if he does not agree with them" and Trump had set up some of these contracts in such a way that the vendors would have been screwed if Biden had backed out? OK, OK, I'm not sure.

Also, the pattern seems to be that technologies that promise to free up time end up being used in competitive, zero-sum, arms-racey ways, so everyone will be forced to use this just to keep up, nobody will be better off and all of our water will be used up by data centers.

Recently I stayed in a La Quinta in Winston-Salem and on the other side of the shared parking lot there was a sports-barry restaurant and it had that kind of menu, which was a really pleasant surprise compared to what I was expecting. (I had already surrendered to eating there for various reasons.)

In other words, if one is concerned about Sayed's positions, the proper response is to urge people vote him down in the primary. Not to threaten to abandon the Democratic party just because he's IN the primary.

I think Israel has the right to exist. But I guess my overall point is that if one representative in the Dem caucus is unwilling to say that, it doesn't mean the party should be abandoned. Repubs will try to weaponize small instance of extremism. We (including Joe) should not help them.

@walshfreedom.bsky.social -- I'm a progressive Dem who really appreciates your voice, and if you went 100% Left, I'd be suspicious. But please try not to freak out about some DSA members winning primaries. They're in progressive districts. They're not communists. Don't feed the MAGA fear-mongering.

I will often ask a question on Facebook that I probably could have "looked up" for the benefits of 1) sharing an inquiry with friends, 2) the possibility that my friends have unique knowledge, 3) the charm of wrong(ish) answers. I usually have to push through fear of cringe to do this.
