The early stages reminded me of when ebooks became a thing. Such widespread, confident claims about what was "definitely going to happen."

I have to agree it's 4. He's unselfish and not flashy, just moves the ball around.

Dune Part 3 will probably be good.

Which gets to your point about exclusion. Groups blended together and there was none of that high-school frostiness. Or maybe I'm just reading too much into the fact that I got along well with everyone.

I went to a small college with no Greek life. People naturally self-sorted into their friend groups, but it was like a series of wheels, and each spoke had some connection to another wheel. [I know that's not how wheels work, but still...]

It WOULD be weird, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't do it.

As a hockey fan, I'm okay with it. You know, one of those 'post-grad' prep school years that high school players do could be a pretty good backdrop.

You laugh, but between us Michael and I have 6 NBA championships.

I have a friend who was a religion major and worked for WebMD. Another who was a film major and worked for Pandora. It's about the person, not the major. [I know you know this.]

The way they talk about it revealing. "Oh, you just got heightmogged!" No, dude, someone just walked in who's taller than I am.

Fargo not being on it is a travesty.

Bessent and Grenell have never hidden it, though. Hypothetically, if Mullin were closeted, it would mean that he placed a high value on keeping it a secret.

But revealing his personal life could cost him the job that lets him do that.

"Some Dreamers of the Golden Dream" from the same book is still a banger.

Semi-counterpoint: the image of a crowd protesting can be a powerful thing.

I'm blocked. Who is it?

Not the point but connected to it: I love hockey, but *Arizona State?* Folks, what are we doing here?

Greg @greg813.bsky.social · 15/09/2026
I would argue that the lesson of 1968 is "Don't do things like Vietnam," not "Don't protest against them."
010
Greg @greg813.bsky.social · 15/09/2026
And this started with the claim that "the far left screwed the Democrats." Which is an absurd take.

Greg @greg813.bsky.social · 15/09/2026
Point taken, my apologies. However, you seem to be implying that no one should have spoken out against the war until that was the majority position, which misunderstands how public opinion is shaped.
000
Greg @greg813.bsky.social · 15/09/2026
None of that is true.

Greg @greg813.bsky.social · 15/09/2026
I never said anything about opposition being the majority. I talked about it existing.

Greg @greg813.bsky.social · 15/09/2026
The lesson there isn't "Don't protest the Vietnam War," it's "Don't DO the Vietnam War."

The answer is immediately and under Johnson.

Screwed them? By not liking what the Democratic administration was doing in Vietnam?

Greg @greg813.bsky.social · 14/09/2026
DSA had nothing whatsoever to do with Fetterman, actually.

I cringed when I heard that Obama likened him to an Old Testament prophet, but as more people emerge for whom he paved the way, while he does little to burnish his own image, I can't help finding it prescient.

The things they're promoting it for are getting increasingly pathetic.

For my 21st we grilled steak tips and, with great ceremony, made my first legal drink a mudslide from Trader Vic's on Block Island. Not really relevant, but this thread made me remember it, which made me happy.

I don't think that's true.

Watch Spotlight and ask yourself if AI could have done that journalism.

I've been wondering about that myself for years.

I proofread books, and there are things that would help me that any decent programmer could probably do. But this is all being marketed to C suites and shareholders as job elimination software.

Exactly! Use it to improve Westlaw or something.

Greg @greg813.bsky.social · 13/09/2026
You seem to think all of this is inevitable and good. That's the main problem people have with AI shills.

I guess the big question is, 1) Can he fix this? 2) What would that look like?

I saw an ad for "Biblical Tours [or something] with Will Graham" [obviously a descendant of Billy] and couldn't help thinking "And God said, 'This is my design.'" [I really hope you're one of the handful of people who will get the joke.]

Greg @greg813.bsky.social · 13/09/2026
It sounded to me like you were saying "Why shouldn't trans people have to be punching bags? Look at how everyone else is suffering!" Which would be a psychopathic thing to believe. Apologies if I misinterpreted, which I seem to have done.
000
Greg @greg813.bsky.social · 13/09/2026
Well, my original point was, there is a recent history of Democrats trying to thread a nonexistent needle on trans rights. The Seth Moultons of the world, basically. Talarico is falling into that trap.
100
Greg @greg813.bsky.social · 12/09/2026
Is any Democrat running on the idea that those things are good? Because plenty of centrist Dems are actively taking up the anti-trans cause.

Can you name a single Democrat who has won specifically because they threw trans people under the bus?

Greg @greg813.bsky.social · 11/09/2026
Once again you appear to be saying that Fetterman's perfidy - the core of which is supporting Israel to the hilt - is what Hasan Piker, of all people, specifically wanted. I only mention Israel to highlight the absurdity of your position, given that it's Piker you're talking about.
100
Greg @greg813.bsky.social · 11/09/2026
We're not talking about Platner, who we both agree sucks. We're talking about Fetterman, specifically the 2022 edition.
100
Greg @greg813.bsky.social · 11/09/2026
You honestly believe that Hasan Piker and other progressives supported Fetterman because they expected him to screw over Democrats? That is absurd.
110
Greg @greg813.bsky.social · 11/09/2026
No it isn't. When Nixon's people sabotaged Muskie to get a McGovern nomination, that was rat-fucking. When progressives sincerely supported McGovern, that was not.
100
Greg @greg813.bsky.social · 11/09/2026
But again, ignoring red flags is ignoring red flags. A "rat-fucking operation" would be working to get him nominated *because of* the red flags so he would lose, or with the expectation that the heel turn would happen.
