It doesn't have to be this way. The Greens are working every single day to ensure New Zealanders have affordable lives, healthy nature, and honest politics.

Let's be clear: good climate policy reduces the cost of living, supports jobs and builds our country's resilience. The Luxon Government has managed to both tank the economy and undermine climate commitments.

Peters is officially responsible for our international climate negotiations and managing our trade agreements. He hasn't asked for advice because he either isn't serious about the dangerous proposals he's long argued for, or he doesn't care about the consequences to our country and economy.

Meeting our Paris commitments is written into our Free Trade Agreements with the European Union and the United Kingdom. Farmers and exporters rely on that market access, and they deserve a Foreign Minister who checks what withdrawal would put at risk before he promises it.

The Greens will unlock the resources necessary to fix what’s broken, lower the cost of living and climate changing emissions to improve everyone’s quality of life. That’s what responsible government looks like.

Right now, the richest pay $9 in tax for every $100 they make, while a teacher pays $22. The Greens would give 96% of earners an income tax cut, paid for not by cuts to public services, but ensuring the super wealthy pay their fair share.

Nearly half of the coalition's own voters support a wealth tax. Luxon, Seymour and Peters are standing in the way of a policy their own supporters want. That tells you everything about who they serve.

The latest Ipsos Issues Monitor surveyed 1,003 people between 3 & 11 September. It found 64% support a 2.5% tax on net assets above $10 million, with the family home exempt, while only 26% oppose it.

New Zealanders know our infrastructure is falling apart and they know that the super wealthy are not paying their fair share. They want a country that works for all of us, which is why they want a wealth tax.

Politics should work for all of us, not the just the wealthy few.

Government Ministers must be held accountable for whose interests they are serving. Aotearoa has one chance, on November the 7th, to stop these dystopian laws from becoming reality. Now is the time to believe in a better way, to enrol by October the 25th, and then vote this government out.

Agri-lobby groups went as far as to question “whether protecting ‘life-supporting capacity’ sets too high a bar… when determining a limit”. This is how extreme these industries are - that life itself is deemed inconvenient.

Green Party of Aotearoa New Zealand @greens.org.nz · 14/09/2026
These documents show that while the public, NGOs and independent experts were largely limited to ordinary select committee processes, agri-businesses were being hosted in a closed door ‘workshop’ by Minister Chris Bishop, Under-Secretary Simon Court, and Minister Todd McClay.

This week, Luxon’s Government will grant a polluter’s wish list, embedding climate denial and an open invitation to destroy nature into law. Critical protections at the heart of our planning and environmental laws will be deleted or replaced according to industry wish lists.
1215
Green Party of Aotearoa New Zealand @greens.org.nz · 14/09/2026
Let there be no mistake. This government has gutted critical environmental safeguards as dictated by powerful, polluting lobbyists who will make huge profits as a result.

From lobbying wish lists to New Zealand law: The Luxon Government is ramming through its last attack on nature this term.

Poverty is a political choice. Louise Upston and National can’t keep avoiding responsibility for their decisions to wrongfully decline support, and their failure to take action to create jobs and lift people out of poverty.

Green Party of Aotearoa New Zealand @greens.org.nz · 08/09/2026
The goal shouldn’t be to reach an arbitrary number. Special Needs Grants were accessed by more than 318,000 people in 2025, almost 6% of the total population. New Zealanders who can’t cover essential needs deserve support when they need it.
1184
Green Party of Aotearoa New Zealand @greens.org.nz · 08/09/2026
The Minister can’t simply claim this is an admin error. Why is there an option to decline assistance because food is “not an essential” if it isn’t intended to be used? Upston needs to front up & investigate whether those declined food assistance were left in hardship, distress, & danger.
1186
Green Party of Aotearoa New Zealand @greens.org.nz · 08/09/2026
People who need Special Needs Grants are often at their rock bottom. They have little to no assets, no savings, and are unable to cover an essential or immediate need. Often this essential need is food.
1174
Green Party of Aotearoa New Zealand @greens.org.nz · 08/09/2026
The Green Party is calling on the Minister of Social Development to answer why thousands of people were told food was not an essential when declined for Special Needs Grants.

Everyone in Aotearoa should have access to affordable kai. The Green Party has a plan to take on the supermarket duopoly, bring down grocery prices, and make sure everyone can access good food. Affordable Food For All of Us: www.greens.org.nz/affordable_f...

New Zealanders deserve affordable power, energy independence, local jobs and a resilient economy. An LNG terminal won’t deliver this, but the Green Party Energy Policy will.

Green Party of Aotearoa New Zealand @greens.org.nz · 02/09/2026
We know fossil fuels are not the future. Yet, Luxon’s Government is still wanting to spend $1 billion of taxpayer money to build an LNG facility. Something we don’t need, or want.

With Methanex leaving the market, this frees up our gas supply, meaning we have the chance to increase our electricity generation. This means cheaper, more sustainable power for all of us.
1141
Green Party of Aotearoa New Zealand @greens.org.nz · 02/09/2026
New Zealand can no longer rely on fossil fuels. Today’s announcement that Methanex is closing proves that. From 2027, NZ’s largest gas producer will be closing its plant and selling off its gas contracts.

There’s enough food in Aotearoa to feed everyone. Let’s start by making sure every child has a nutritious lunch at school.
Graphic announcing the Green Party's plan to provide free and nutritious school lunches for tamariki. Below the headline, a school cafeteria counter displays healthy lunch options including fruit, wraps, baked items, and drinks. Two children hold trays at the serving counter. The text reads: “#BREAKING The Green Party will provide free and nutritious school lunches for tamariki.”Campaign graphic showing a child looking into an open refrigerator containing a small selection of food and household items. Text reads: “At a time when more whānau are struggling to afford the basics and 1 in 5 children live in households that run out of food, every child should have access to nutritious food.” Decorative strawberry, arrow, and broken-heart illustrations appear around the text.Campaign graphic showing two children sitting on the floor reading a book together in a classroom or library setting. Text reads: “Our tamariki learn better when they are well-fed. Every child across Aotearoa deserves healthy, delicious, locally prepared kai that helps them thrive.”Campaign graphic showing children seated at a table with trays of school food, including sandwiches, fruit, vegetables, and glasses of juice. Large text reads: “The Green Party will restore, expand and protect funding to feed our kids in schools. No child should come to school uncertain about their next meal, and the Green Party will fix that.”

Prime Minister, building a thriving economy means supporting the little guy, not patronising them as your Government cuts local jobs and infrastructure investment then consolidates contracts to give them to multi-national corporations. These are political decisions, not inevitabilities.

Christopher Luxon's economic decisions have produced the highest unemployment rate in over a decade. Political tit for tat aside, it's time for the Prime Minister to put his hands back on the wheel of this economy and invest in our country. Clearly, cut after cut doesn't grow an economy.

Unemployment hits 11-year high under Luxon's Government. 49,000 more New Zealanders are out of work than when this Government took office, according to figures released by Stats NZ this morning showing 171,000 people unemployed and actively looking for work.

This is not RMA reform - this is relationship destruction. The Government cannot claim to honour Te Tiriti while stripping away Māori participation.
23915
Green Party of Aotearoa New Zealand @greens.org.nz · 20/07/2026
The Government talks about cutting red tape, but what it is really cutting is Māori voices. It is removing partnership from environmental decision-making and weakening protections for the places we all depend on.

Campaign graphic titled “Green Party Policy 2026.” Large text reads: “Water is life. The Green Party will make sure our water is safe to drink, swim in, and fish from.” An arrow points right toward a group of people jumping from a jetty into the sea. The lower portion of the image shows blue ocean water; the background is light grey with green branding and the Green Party logo.Campaign graphic titled “Green Party Policy 2026.” Large text reads: “Aotearoa is a water-rich country.” Smaller text states that the Luxon Government is weakening environmental protections to benefit industrial agriculture and fishing. The image features blue ocean water, a fish above the waves, and people standing on a jetty at the lower left. Green Party branding appears at the top.Green Party Policy 2026 graphic titled “The Facts.” The graphic lists four statements: up to 100,000 people get sick from unsafe drinking water every year; nearly half of rivers are unsafe for swimming; three out of four lakes are unhealthy; and New Zealand is the only country still bottom trawling in the South Pacific. The text appears in dark green on a light background. Ocean waves span the bottom of the image, with a white sailboat on the right-hand side. Green Party branding appears at the top right.Campaign graphic titled “Green Party Policy 2026.” Text reads: “Nature should come before corporate profits.” Additional text says the Green Party will prioritise the health of rivers, lakes and the moana, and ensure drinking water is safe. The graphic concludes with the phrase “Because water is for life.” Blue ocean waves span the bottom of the image, with part of a sailboat visible at the lower left and a Green Party logo at the lower right.

The choice is simple. We can keep treating our wild places as something to be carved up and sold, or we can lock in their protection for the tamariki and mokopuna who will inherit them.

Our public conservation land is not the Government's to sell. It belongs to all of us, and to the generations who come after us. The laws meant to protect our wildlife & our wild places are failing. Nature loss is accelerating & the conservation system is not up to today’s challenges.
