Flexibility and open communication I think. There's a lot of things that go into it but these seem the most crucial and fundamental to me Choices players make have to matter, give them the freedom and space to make those choices. Working with your players will always provide the best results

I enjoy any kind of structure if it challenges me enough. Linear levels can help keep pacing tight But there's also more open games that have a easier main path for accessibility with harder optional challenges and opportunities for skill expression sprinkled throughout which I enjoyed For sure :)

Tbh it is the reason I haven't played it. I followed the development because it was interesting and I love the theme of the art but it seems it would be too open and easy for me Maybe your target audience is casual/chill. It might connect more with Nintendo users so that seems like a good target

I've had similar experiences because unreal by default puts a gross "realism" filter/lookup table on your game which makes textures look off and washed out You can thankfully turn it off but then harsh lights can clip and bloom is kinda broken so it's still problematic lol
