Joy doesn't require the world to be all right. A bird calling. Something flowering. A warm cup in your hands. A dog doing something ridiculous. The difficult things still matter. These things matter too.  #JoyInDifficultTimes #SmallJoys #ClimateEmotions #GentleResilience #GreenDoorAcademy

After a devastating NSW landslip in 2022, landholders began restoring what they could. Some plantings failed. They kept going. Three years later, natural regeneration was helping create an emerging forest. Hope doesn't always require knowing the ending. Sometimes we begin anyway.  #FridayHopeDay

We can't always create certainty. But we can build our capacity to live without it. Notice possibility without treating it as prediction. Sort what is known from unknown. Find what is within your influence. These are capacities we can learn and practise.  The Green Door is open.

When you don't know what happens next: What do I know? What don't I know yet? What needs attention now? What can wait? What is within my influence today? Uncertainty may remain. But you may know enough to choose your next step.

When the future is uncertain, “this could happen” can begin to feel like “this will happen.” Considering possibilities helps us prepare. But possibility isn't prediction. What do I know? What might happen? Is there something useful I can do now? #LivingWithUncertainty #GreenDoorAcademy

Some periods of life contain more question marks than answers. Our minds naturally want to know what happens next. But sometimes there simply isn't an answer yet. This week: how do we stay engaged with reality without mentally living every possible future in advance?  #LivingWithUncertainty

Friday Hope Day. We can't contribute everywhere. Research on volunteering suggests something important: meaningful involvement matters, while feeling overwhelmed by what we've taken on can work against wellbeing. Perhaps contribution needs depth more than breadth. Not everywhere. Somewhere.

How do we learn what deserves our attention — and what we can let pass? Discernment is something we can develop. Green Door Academy explores practical ways to build emotional steadiness, reconnect with what matters to you and how to choose our responses more deliberately. The Green Door is open.

Not everything that catches our attention needs to keep it. We can't always choose what enters our awareness. But sometimes we can choose what gets our continued attention. Attention is finite. Where do you want to go with yours? #MentalOverload #IntentionalLiving #GreenDoorAcademy

You don't have to have an opinion about everything. You can say: “I don't know enough yet.” “I haven't formed a view.” “I'd like to understand more first.” Thoughtfulness doesn't always produce an instant opinion. Sometimes it produces a pause. #GreenDoorAcademy #CriticalThinking

We can encounter news of more suffering, conflict and opinion before breakfast than one person could possibly process Our access to information has expanded enormously. Our attention has not become infinite You don't have to care less. You may need to choose where your care goes #GreenDoorAcademy

FRIDAY HOPE DAY An Australian school program taught children practical ways to respond when they witnessed racism. Results were encouraging. Staying human isn't something we can only hope for We can practise it We can teach it We can help make it the norm Research: SOAR, BMC Public Health, 2021.

Emotional steadiness isn't about becoming unaffected. Some things should trouble us. The work isn't always to remove the feeling. It's to create enough room to ask: What matters here? What can I influence? How do I want to respond? The Green Door is open. #GreenDoorAcademy #OnlineLearning

Staying human doesn't mean staying silent. We can challenge prejudice. Correct misinformation. Set boundaries. Speak firmly. Walk away. Act. And still ask: Who do I want to be while I do this? We can oppose cruelty without practising it.  #GreenDoorAcademy #StayingHuman #Values #Compassion

You read something cruel. Anger arrives. Maybe sadness, disgust or the urge to fire back. Notice. Not because those feelings are wrong. Noticing can create a little space between feeling and action. And in that space, we may get to choose what happens next.

Public discourse can become genuinely hard to hear. Not because we need tougher skin. Sometimes anger or sadness tells us: Something I care about is being violated. Emotional steadiness doesn't mean learning not to care. It helps us choose what comes next #GreenDoorAcademy #EmotionalSteadiness

FRIDAY HOPE DAY 🌿 Someone is restoring habitat. Someone is helping a neighbour. Someone is sharing skills. Someone is planting a tree. None of them fixes everything. That isn't their job. A better world is also built through ordinary participation Including ours #FridayHopeDay #GroundedHope

What is emotional steadiness for? Not simply feeling less distressed. It can help us stay present, know what matters, choose thoughtfully, recover, make room for joy — and participate. Perhaps the question isn't only: How can I feel better? But: How do I want to live? #GreenDoorAcademy #ACT

The world's problems are enormous. Your area of influence probably isn't. That's okay. Start where your hands can reach. Learn. Notice. Make changes where you can. Sometimes that area grows. You don't have to carry the whole world to contribute to it.

Green Door Academy @greendooracademy.bsky.social · 14/09/2026
We cannot care for everything, fix everything or control everything. But we can ask: What matters deeply to me? What do I want my choices to reflect? Then, within the life I actually have: What is one way I can move towards that? Not perfection. Direction #GreenDoorAcademy #ValuesBasedLiving

“The environment” isn't somewhere else. Our food, water, homes, work and communities all exist within living systems. We're already participants. So perhaps the question isn't: How do I save the world? But: How do I want to participate in the world I'm already part of? #GreenDoorAcademy

FRIDAY HOPE DAY  One hopeful thing about being human is that we are not finished. We can learn. Reconsider. Adapt. Develop new skills and make different choices. Change isn't always easy. But we retain the capacity for it. The Earth can recover. And humans can change. #FridayHopeDay

Green Door courses don't promise to remove difficult feelings. They help us build capacities to stay present, recognise our influence, choose what matters and recover when we're knocked sideways. Emotional steadiness gives us somewhere to stand. Then we choose our next step. #GreenDoorAcademy

When a plant struggles, we look at the conditions. Water. Soil. Light. Temperature. We don't accuse the plant of lacking resilience. Perhaps sometimes we could offer ourselves the same curiosity: Not only “What's wrong with me?” But “What conditions am I living in?” #GreenDoorAcademy

Recovery doesn't always mean getting back to who we were before. Life changes us. Sometimes recovery means taking stock, noticing what remains strong, learning what we need now — and gradually discovering how to flourish from here. Recovery isn't always rewind. #GreenDoorAcademy #Recovery

Hope doesn't require us to deny what has been lost Recovery begins by seeing clearly what has happened — and then looking again What remains? What is returning? What conditions could help? There are no guarantees But damage isn't always the end of the story #GreenDoorAcademy #RecoverableEarth

We hear a great deal about what is being lost. And we need to. But living systems also have remarkable capacities for recovery. Recognising this doesn't deny the damage. It simply makes room for another question: What can still recover? #GreenDoorAcademy #RecoverableEarth

Even during difficult times, humans sing, tell jokes, cook special food, grow flowers, play games and make ridiculous things just because they bring joy. Difficulty doesn't get to occupy every room in our lives. Being alive contains more than the difficulty we are facing. #FridayHopeDay

Today's highly serious wellbeing assignment: Do something completely unnecessary. Something funny, playful or gloriously silly. No productivity required. And incidentally? Research suggests laughter can affect our stress response. Your body rather approves of this too. #GreenDoorAcademy

Joy is not betrayal. You don't have to prove that you care by suffering continuously. A ridiculous joke doesn't make climate change less real. There is room for concern and delight in the same life. #GreenDoorAcademy #EmotionalResilience #ClimateDistress #EcoAnxiety #JoyMatters #ResilientLiving

You don't have to be serious all the time just because the situation is serious. Caring deeply doesn't require us to be solemn every waking minute. You can understand what is happening — and still laugh. Sometimes resilience looks surprisingly unserious. #GreenDoorAcademy #EmotionalResilience

Keeping your eyes open doesn’t mean keeping them on the news all day. It is finding a way to be aware and steady. Choose reliable sources. Notice when you’re no longer learning anything new. When you have enough, step away. You can stop watching and still care. #ClimateDistress #Wellbeing

Something you thought was stable may suddenly feel less stable. If climate change is leaving you frightened, sad, angry or unsettled, you aren't necessarily overreacting. You are responding to something that matters. Sometimes it helps to begin with: Yes. This is hard. And yes, I care.

Climate change can feel different when it comes closer to home. A heatwave. Smoke. Drought. Flood. A familiar landscape changing. For some communities this isn't new. For others, recognition may be happening now. We don't need to look away. We can begin by seeing clearly.  #ClimateDistress

Caring deeply can sometimes hurt. When we see climate change, injustice or suffering, feeling distressed doesn't mean we care too much. We don't need to stop looking or stop caring. We can learn to face difficult truths without losing ourselves. 🌿 #ClimateDistress #GreenDoorAcademy
