We really do put the "green" into Green Allotments! More and more allotment gardeners are choosing to garden without using pesticides or herbicides. We agree with them 🦔🍓🐝 Allotment sites are for the future, not just the present.

For many allotment societies, handing over the plot rents to the council or other landowner leaves little budget and can foster volunteer-demotivation. Instead, our charity offers a Peppercorn Lease, meaning the plot rents can be reinvested into the allotment site by the gardeners.

Allotments rented from a council or private landowner are always at risk of closure, no matter what promises are made or which laws are in place. A sad state of affairs given the contribution allotments make. Our approach is to buy land for new allotments, creating a stronger model of tenure.

A charity? So what? Fair question. Allotments are always under threat of sale/development. Placing new allotment land in a regulated charity model of provision helps protect from sale and development.

A community-led model of allotments works well but only with the right training, mentoring, ongoing support. That’s why we don’t focus on gimmicks. Instead our priority is getting the new community of gardeners up and running: confident, informed, ready to support one another. #allotmentlife #🌱🇬🇧

Non-profit Allotment Sites: rent goes straight back into the good of the allotment site. For-profit Allotment Sites: rent goes straight into the pocket of the person providing the allotments. We aren't aware of anyone buying a private jet from the profits but they could if they wanted to.

🐸🌻 🍅 This is community-led management of local green spaces. To 'give something back' we do not charge land rent to the allotment society. Plot rent paid to the society by each plotholder on the allotment site can be reinvested back into the allotment site. A sustainable future for Allotments 🦔🍓🐝🌱
