Tldr; I had an amazing time at #CEO2026! Thank you to @jebaited.gg and @ceogaming.org for putting together a spectacular event every year and an even bigger thank you for giving @retrorevivalfgc.bsky.social the Community Effort Orlando Award. It's an honor to be recognized for our work!

I can't believe that it's already been 3 years since I helped nudge @pskelly.bsky.social into starting his own local. How did I end up getting roped into playing and helping? I wouldn't change it for the world. The RR community is something special and I love you all

We're starting a new series highlighting the people behind Retro Revival: the community builders, the World Warriors, the Admins. They keep events running, brackets moving, and the hype alive. Join us in thanking them and watch for the first post later this week.

Had an amazing time at #CEO2025. The core of CEO is community, and I truly feel that every time I attend. I had a blast spending time with old friends, meeting new ones, and making memories. I valued the time with each and every one of you. 💜

This was great practice for #CEO2025 ! Can't wait to see how the hard work is paying off. But more importantly, can't wait to see so many friends at CEO this weekend.

I felt like I played pretty well this weekend! It was one of those days that felt like I've made some good progress.

Its been 8 tourneys since I've gotten first in ST and I couldn't be happier about that. Our scene for games pre-SF4 era has improved so much in a short amount of time which makes me incredibly proud. I'm very happy that Katie, myself and our friends have been able to grow this community so much!

I lost in round 1 and did a run through loser's side to make it to 3rd! Very proud of how well I played ☺️

Last weekend at @neondreamsarcade.bsky.social @oldboone.bsky.social took many wonderful photos including this one. I love it. Throughout our 20 year relationship @pskelly.bsky.social and I have played competitive games together. We don't get mad or upset. Even when he beats me with a V-ism combo 😁

If you've attended any Retro Revival events we want to hear what you thought. What did you like, what did you dislike, and especially what are the things that we can do to give you a better experience. As a team we genuinely care about running the best possible events that we can

We're in there! Who else is coming for that CEO badge?

020

greatkat @greatkat.bsky.social · 17/01/2025

Not all locals can be free and I get that. But running free weeklies has been our priority and we’ve made it work. Charging can be necessary but it can also create barriers that keep players from competing.

010

greatkat @greatkat.bsky.social · 17/01/2025

Seeing a lot of talk about paid locals, so here’s my take: Retro Revival runs free weeklies to keep fighting games accessible. $15/week can be a barrier and people have thanked us because they couldn’t otherwise participate. Everyone deserves a safe, inclusive space to play.

I absolutely love my stick from Jasen's Customs. It's beautiful, sturdy, and is in fact custom. I had such a hard time playing on a standard layout and Jasen was awesome enough to make a custom one for me. Go support him and give him a follow. Or better yet, get one of his sticks.

Tomb Raider From the Survivor trilogy. This one was surprisingly good. I started it during a weekend when I was supposed to write a paper for one of my classes. I actively decided to play this instead of writing the paper that was 10% of my grade. I'd make the same decision again.

021

greatkat @greatkat.bsky.social · 22/10/2024

Shadowrun Dragonfall I love all three games in this trilogy but this one is peak. It's based off of a ttrpg system that I love and just brings it all together to make a fantastic game

010

greatkat @greatkat.bsky.social · 21/10/2024

Initial D Arcade Stage 3 I used to go to the arcade every paycheck and spend way more than I should have playing this game. I still have my game save on a little plastic license somewhere

020

greatkat @greatkat.bsky.social · 21/10/2024

Last of Us I love the moral grey area of the ending! I didn't have high hopes for this one when I first started playing it but I quickly came around on it and absolutely loved everything about it.

010

greatkat @greatkat.bsky.social · 21/10/2024

King's Quest I'm just gonna lump all of these together. I grew up playing the Sierra games and still love them in all of their awkward glory.

010

greatkat @greatkat.bsky.social · 21/10/2024

Halo 2 You might think that this one is a little out of place. That's because it is. I've never played it (though I have played 1 and 3). Halo 2 launch marks my anniversary with my husband. Go ahead and do the math.

020

greatkat @greatkat.bsky.social · 21/10/2024

SoulCalibur II An ex imported SC2 for GameCube and I got to play it before it was released in the US. When it did come out, I proceeded to buy it for all three consoles. I've played through weapon master mode countless times. It'll forever be one of my favorite games 💜💙💚

010

greatkat @greatkat.bsky.social · 21/10/2024

Diablo 2 I played this on PC when it came out. I don't even want to know how many hours I put into it because it was a lot. I even spent a lot of that time doing Meph and Baal runs with my dad.

030

greatkat @greatkat.bsky.social · 21/10/2024

Final Fantasy X This is my favorite of the FF franchise. I miss turn based games like this. The unhappy ending is my favorite. I love this game enough that I named my cat after one of the characters. X-2 didn't happen, not canon.

010

greatkat @greatkat.bsky.social · 21/10/2024

Tales of Berseria Imo this game is even better if you play Tales of Zestiria first. This is a story of vengeance so you know it's going to be on the dark side. Gotta love an anti-hero

020

greatkat @greatkat.bsky.social · 21/10/2024

Horizon Zero Dawn I played it mostly on a whim, not knowing much about it, and fell in love with it. I sincerely can't think of anything that I didn't love about it. The story, combat, graphics, exploration, voice acting, etc is all outstanding. 10/10

020

greatkat @greatkat.bsky.social · 21/10/2024

Xenoblade Chronicles X I adore this game! It was so much fun and I enjoyed the story. I've wanted Nintendo to port it to a new system for years now so that I can play it again.

I made Top 8 for Vsav and VF5 last night at Retro Revival! I was super surprised by how well I did in VF considering how new to the game I am but I had loads of fun. Looking forward to running it again in the future
