One of the biggest concerns people have when getting a Great Dane is life span. How long have your seniors lived? #greatdane #doglovers #doglife #dog

Miss Sadie is doing really well. She loves to run, she loves to play with any toy, and loves to play with other dogs. Her ideal new family will have another dog to play with. At 7 months old she is all energy and fun.

Goose’s skin is still improving. Every day I notice a little more fur on his body. Hopefully all that continues to move in the right direction as the warmer weather unleashes more allergies upon him. Despite the cytopoint injection he got last week, cont

Great Dane reality #25 They don't know their size. Do they mean to cause harm with their big bodies? No, but does it happen? Yes. Have you ever been hit when your dane is doing zoomies? Any damage from zoomies? #zoomies #dogs #greatdane

If I had a nickel for every time I've been asked if I have a big house or told a dane needed surrendered because the house was too small, I'd be rich. How much do you think house size matters? #dogs #doglover #greatdane

Ruckus is still waiting for his family to come along. He is enjoying being fostered with Goose. It seems like one day he was all puppy, and the next day I looked at him and he was impossibly huge. It’s crazy how quickly Great Dane puppies grow! Cont. #dogs #puppy

0-4 Months: The "Awe" Phase. Sweet, sleepy, smells like vanilla. A total trap. 4-36 Months: The "Shark" Phase. Destroys "indestructible" toys in 12 secs. Selective hearing is at all-time high. 36 Months + The "Gentle Giant" Phase. Finally becomes the 150lb lap dog you were promised. #PuppyLife

We joke about danes being couch potatoes but really they can be pretty high energy. Show us your danes in motion. #dogs

Dane reality #2 Couch Potatoes they are not. The idea that danes are low energy is for most not realistic. Most require walks daily and regular run time to prevent a bored dane with energy to burn from destroying your home. Some danes have retained a strong prey drive. They are a working dog. #dogs

Great Dane reality #1 Medical expenses We often have Danes turned in bc families can't afford the medical care. People don't realize how much even basic routine care like heartworm prevention can cost. Emergency situations can run into the $1,000s. This is a reality of owning a giant breed. #dogs

Let's talk size. Our standard has a minimum height of 28 inches for females and 30 inches for males. Weight can vary from under 100 to 170 pounds. I get messages from people worried their dane isn't big enough. How do you feel about size? Do you worry your dane is too large or small? #dogs

Welcome Smokey to GDRI. He is understandably a little timid at the moment, but he’s warming up to his new foster home quickly. As per usual, Otis, my other Dane, expects new dogs to instantly be his best friend. He is fine around her smaller dogs, as well as cats and even a bird. Cont.

Welcome Izzy to GDRI. Izzy is 10. She came to rescue because her owner was murdered. We realize at her age, there may not be a family willing to give her a retirement home, but we are hoping someone will have a soft bed in need of a sweet old girl to rest on it. Cont. #dog

Welcome, Colton, to GDRI. He is a good boy with an easy-going personality. He is certainly easy to love. He would do well in a household with another large dog, so he has a companion. Colton likes to be around family. He likes to know where everyone is in the house. Cont. #dogs
