To an extent a lot of it is just my generations nostalgia for the early 2000s internet, before it became... this. The rest of it feels like a younger generation that thinks of it more as an aesthetic choice rather than what it was, the best that could be done at the moment.

It is genuinely shocking to me that the early 2000s computing aesthetic is for some reason becoming popular in video games. Stuff like Antivirus Survivor 2003 Professional, Permaban, Hypnospace Outlaw, CD-ROM, The Detective's Computer, Broken Reality / 2000 , etc. It's really interesting to see.

Any job that requires multiple disciplines, that requires creativity and consistency, is going to be expensive, and for good reason. We've seen what happens when you try to replace artists with LLMs, you get incoherent, uncanny commercials no one wants, or art that can't stay consistent.

You can apply the same to art. Art is not about the final picture, it's the processes that lead to it and the understanding of the underlying composition. In a production capacity, it's taking prior work and dissecting it to make the next piece consistent.

Additionally when we talk about solution crafting, a developer is capable of taking into consideration outside factors. Things like the operational environment, how much compute they have access to, etc. It's knowing that you need rubber mallet and not a jackhammer to solve a problem.

Anyone who's ever done even a tiny bit of programming knows the struggle of figuring out why it isn't working. It is exponentially harder to do that when you don't have a frame of reference for how it was originally designed. It becomes this massive tangled mess (especially when how LLMs code).

The problem with deskilling using AI is that (aside from a noticeable quality drop and the general lack of ethics around LLM usage) it tries to do so to highly skilled job that require dozens of different specialties. A programmer doesn't just write code, they also need to be able to troubleshoot.

So there's a concept in large-scale business called "deskilling". Often it's talked about in industrial processing, where you design a machine or mechanism to remove the need for skill as a barrier to entry for the job. A bit like how a loom deskilled hand-weaving in textile manufacture.

Basically this only affects a tiny number of vibecoded extensions for OBS. Nothing burger if there ever was one.

I didnt realize I'm in the minority by using fully custom alerts with a bot rather than a prepackaged platform. My OBS package is a nightmare but its only dependent on a single piece of software that could quite easily be replaced with a hand-coded bot.

I should clarify, I'm a secular humanist and have been for well over a decade. Prior to that I was areligious so I've never really had exposure to religious moral frameworks. Most of my morality came from a position of not wanting to cause harm, very much a live and let live approach.

And this makes a practical difference becuase...? The end state is still that were both arguing for empirical analysis of morality and ethics rather than vibes based garbage or relative "its moral when I do it" bullshit the oligarchs and fascits promote.

It seems like a stretch to argue special moral relativity. Its not like were assigning value judgement based on how fast something moves or where its being observed from. From a purely philosophical perspective you can look at any situation and with enough inputs determine the morality of an actuon.

Objective morality is a thing that is both real and studiable. It doesnt rely on moldy old rules or the threat of punishment. Harm reduction, cost benefit analysis, and showing preference to not impeding human autonomy are all objective and measurable.
