I have. Still annoyed that ThE Bulwark wouldn’t even respond, not even to say “no”. And many won’t let you contact them until you pay. But some have been more generous. And many still put meaningful work out apart from their paywalls.

Or we could just go back to the RR monopolies. 1) they burned lots of coal 2) they built the tracks where unimportant people lived 3) everyone had to pay fees to the handful of oligarchs to live & move & have their being 4) it gave those oligarchs an opulent way of travel, AND everyone could see

I’m lucky in my library access, but I realize lots of folks are not. Does any library in your state offer digital access to patrons not in their immediate area? PA has at least 2 libraries that do, but again, I’m lucky. Of course, even then you have to have internet & computer access.

But the best journalism is now independents who work alone or in small consortia, and often have paywalls, e.g. on Substack. I know if no library—at least none in my region—that offers free access to those. That’s what I was referring to, bc that’s how I interpreted the original post.

Woot! We lucked out. It wasn’t pouring. Also, today we used Argyll’s new raincoat for the 1st time. She hates how it feels on her fur, but she’s been markedly more willing to empty her bladder in the rain today. If only the hood didn’t fall over her eyes. Good idea, a hood; bad execution.

Stealthing is rape. Sleeping with a minor is rape. Drugging someone and having intercourse is rape. Coercing someone into bed is rape. Your wife or girlfriend does not “owe” you sex. If there’s no consent, it’s rape.

Around here El Niño effects are always unpredictable for both precipitation & temperature. I follow a regional weather company. They're not infallible, but they're good at explaining patterns, & why the weather deviated from everyone's expectation. They've not done their winter overview yet.
