The beauty of Alex Ovechkin's unbelievable scoring season -- other than the fact that he's going to chase Wayne Gretzky down this season -- is that it has helped elevate the Caps to a real contender again. His goal tonight, pulling him within nine goals of Gretzy, also tied the game on the road.

Kerby Joseph has nine interceptions this season for the Lions. How many would he have to get to be talked about as a DPOY with the best pass rushers? I never hear his name brought up in those conversations, but 9 pickles is a show. That's more than 10 teams have.

Jayden Daniels' final line in a playoff-clinching performance for the Commanders: 🏈 16 rushes for 127 yards. 🏈 24/36, 227 YDS, 3 TDs, 1 INT. He walked off the Falcons with a 12-play drive that saw him complete a pass or run on all but one play.

Congrats to the Harris Ownership Group, Adam Peters, Dan Quinn and the entire Commanders operation. They inherited a fixer-upper of a roster and just flipped the script. Double-digit wins and a postseason appearance in year one. Amazing first season.

The Nationals have signed Josh Bell to a one-year deal worth $6M pending a physical, source confirms. I'm told they plan on him being in their DH mix this season. Bell hit 41 HR with the Nationals over 240 games in 2021 and 2022. Was a fan favorite. @JonHeyman was first.

Today may have been the most Jameis Winston game of his career. 🏈 460 passing yards 🏈 4 passing TDs 🏈 Two pick-sixes My favorite Kyle Shanahan line ever, which was about Rex Grossman, is relevant to Jameis. He keeps both teams in the game.

This has been a sensational Monday Night Football game. AFC matchup that doesn't mean a ton to me personally. Two harmless teams that are easy enough to root for exchanging blows. Lots of big plays. Shootout loading.

070

Grant Paulsen @granthpaulsen.bsky.social · 02/12/2024

The Commanders have missed three field goal attempts and two extra points over the last week. Adam Peters will be spending part of his bye week trying to solve that developing issue.

0141

Grant Paulsen @granthpaulsen.bsky.social · 02/12/2024

The Commanders have converted 21 of 24 third-and-one scenarios this season. Like the Ravens for so many years, they are nearly automatic in short yardage situations because their QB is such a threat to run. Hard to defend the mesh point on read-option stuff.

0121

Grant Paulsen @granthpaulsen.bsky.social · 02/12/2024

Chris Rodriguez is 77 rushing attempts into his NFL career and averaging 5.2 a carry. I'm surprised he hasn't gotten more work with all the time B-Rob has missed. 24 of Rodriguez's 26 rushes this season have come while closing out the NYG and TEN games brilliantly.

Grant Paulsen @granthpaulsen.bsky.social · 01/12/2024

That Ohio State loss to Michigan is just unfathomable. One of the worst I’ve ever seen. You can’t lose that game. Under-talented Michigan has no offense & threw for 60 yards. As bad a loss as you’ll ever see in a rivalry game. Super embarrassing for Ryan Day and his staff.

050

Grant Paulsen @granthpaulsen.bsky.social · 01/12/2024

The Commanders have waived Emmanuel Forbes. The 2023 first round pick didn’t make it through his first season with a new staff. He joins Jamin Davis as a released Ron Rivera first rounder. What an absolutely abhorrent first round run under Rivera.

Sensational win for the Caps in NJ. 6-5 road victory against a great team. First place in the Metro. Now 4-2 without OVI. Three PP goals tonight without the captain in his office. The lads are legit. This team is good and fun and I love them. And I love Carbs. Wow.

RIP Sean Taylor. The most special speed/size player I’ve seen. Nobody that big has moved that well during my time as a sports fan. But what I revered most about him was how physical he was. Completely feared by opponents. Different era. Loved watching him destroy receivers.

Grant Paulsen @granthpaulsen.bsky.social · 26/11/2024

My sports take that I'm dead serious about that people hate the most is probably that teams should be going for 4th-and-short in minus territory regularly. I probably would never punt on 4th-and-a-foot. Love that the Ravens just went for a 4th down on their own 16.

370

Grant Paulsen @granthpaulsen.bsky.social · 26/11/2024

Tress Way punts this season. First 8 games: 17 punts. Last 3 games: 17 punts.

Juan Soto has met with several clubs and has received offers from five teams according to multiple reports. Mets Yankees Red Sox Blue Jays Dodgers You'll notice a local team that isn't on that list.

Grant Paulsen @granthpaulsen.bsky.social · 23/11/2024

The Commanders rank 7th in rushing in the NFL. The Cowboys give up 150 YPG on the ground, 31st of 32 clubs. JD5 needs to run a couple times early, maybe pull on read-option. Show DAL he’s willing to run; open things up for a Brian Robinson. I’m predicting B-Rob’s third 100-yard game of the season.

5161

Grant Paulsen @granthpaulsen.bsky.social · 23/11/2024

The Cowboys have beaten the Commanders in 5 of their last 6 meetings, often via blowout. They’ve won by 28, 35, 15 and 42 during that recent stretch. With Dallas bleeding out and crawling across the floor, WSH fans should want to do more than win. Turn those blowout tables.

240

Grant Paulsen @granthpaulsen.bsky.social · 22/11/2024

Marshon Lattimore not playing on Sunday marks three games in a row he'll have missed since the trade to DC. Still love the move as he'll be around for the stretch run of this year and the main factor in adding him was for the next two years he's under contract for. But the wait is frustrating.

4101

Grant Paulsen @granthpaulsen.bsky.social · 19/11/2024

Today was huge for the Commanders' hopes of building a stadium at RFK site. They still need the Dem majority leader to give bill a hearing on floor before session ends. But this was big. I was told by someone with the team that today was the hardest step. They feel like they are in great shape.

0171

Grant Paulsen @granthpaulsen.bsky.social · 19/11/2024

Caps finish road trip 3-0. Out-scored opponents 16-6. 🏒 Lead East with 27 PTS; 3 PTS back of top spot in NHL. 🏒 They've scored 78 goals in 18 games. Had 44 goals at this point last year. 🏒 Have scored 6 goals in six of 18 games. Scored 6 goals just 5 times in entire 82-game slate last year.

Grant Paulsen @granthpaulsen.bsky.social · 19/11/2024

The Cowboys -- down 17 points and on their way to a fifth straight loss -- are dropping like flies in the 4th quarter of Monday Night Football. The Commanders can't ask for a better get-right opportunity.

170

Grant Paulsen @granthpaulsen.bsky.social · 19/11/2024

Here's a 100% correct take that people will hate. Teams should normalize going for 4th-and-short in their own territory. Houston just had a 4th-and-a-foot and punted. You've got a 225-pound QB. Run a sneak and keep the football.

6201

Grant Paulsen @granthpaulsen.bsky.social · 19/11/2024

The Cowboys will play the Commanders on four fewer days of rest this coming Sunday. Six-day turn around. Then they'll play a second straight game on a short week on Thanksgiving. I'm not the kind of guy who is going to feel bad for them. But somebody should. That's kind of messed up.

Alex Ovrchkin just scored again. He’s hotter than a fireplace. That’s 12 goals in his last 11 games. 4 goals in his last two games. 6 in his last 5. He’s 39 and leading the NHL in scoring.
