I had the honour of meeting my fashion checker Mr. Hayakawa-san in person while in Japan in an attempt to restore Ireland-Japan diplomacy. He stole my jacket and it turns out we're the same size Thank you Misstranslation for inviting me to her real office workplace to make this possible

Wake up babe, new JWST image just dropped 💯 🔭 🧪
A close-in image of a protoplanetary disc around a newly formed star. Many different wavelengths of light are combined and represented by separate and various colours. A dark line across the centre is the disc, corresponding to the densest parts of the disc, made of opaque dust: the star is hidden in here and creates a strong glow in the centre. A band going straight up is a jet, while other outflows above and below the disc, and a tail coming off to one side.

New JWST image of protostar HH 30, with legend. 🔭 🧪
A close-in image of protoplanetary disc HH 30. Parts of the image are labelled “Jet” (above and below the disc), “Conical Outflow”, “Possible Spiral”, “Dark Lane”, “Disk”, and “Tail”. A scale marker in the bottom-left is labelled “300 au”; this is a little wider than the disc itself, but less wide than the conical outflows above and below the disc

A collage of four small and one large images of protoplanetary disc HH 30, from different telescopes and in various colours representing different wavelengths of light. Each displays different features of the disc and the outflows around it. They are labelled (top to bottom and left to right) “Hubble/Visible”, “Webb/Near-infrared”, “Webb/Mid-infrared”, “ALMA/Millimetre”, and (the large one) “Webb/Infrared”.

Tomorrow's NASA Astronomy Picture Of the Day (APOD): Wolf-Rayet star WR 140. Every shell is racing away from the stars at more than 2600 kilometers per second, almost 1% the speed of light. 🔭 🧪
The image shows a bright white point of light surrounded by 17 regularly spaced, hazy dust shells at the bottom, right, and upper right, which look like tree rings. There is noticeably less color in the upper left. The central point, where the two stars are located, has a roughly hexagonal shape.

This stunning image from the James Webb Space Telescope showcases 30 Doradus, a massive star-forming region also known as the Tarantula Nebula. Captured by the Mid-Infrared Instrument (MIRI), the image reveals a celestial tapestry of swirling gas and dust bathed in the ethereal glow of newborn stars. Luminous clouds of multicolored nebulae, rich in hydrocarbons and silicates, intertwine with dark, cavernous voids, creating a dramatic backdrop for the brilliant central star cluster. This intricate structure, illuminated by the intense radiation of young, hot stars, highlights the dynamic processes of star birth and the complex interplay of matter and energy that shapes the cosmos.

Captured by the Hubble Space Telescope, this image showcases the dynamic beauty of NGC 2070, a young and luminous star cluster residing within the Large Magellanic Cloud. The cluster's brilliant core illuminates a swirling canvas of gas and dust, where vibrant nebulae in hues of red, white, and blue mix with dark, obscuring patches. This rich tapestry of light and shadow highlights a region of intense star formation, where newborn stars energize the surrounding clouds and sculpt the cosmic landscape with their powerful radiation and stellar winds. NGC 2070 offers a stunning glimpse into the raw energy and ongoing creation of stars within a nearby galaxy.

Hubble's View of Jupiter and Europa in August 2020. 🔭 🧪
This latest image of Jupiter, taken by the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope on 25 August 2020, was captured when the planet was 653 million kilometres from Earth. Hubble’s sharp view is giving researchers an updated weather report on the monster planet’s turbulent atmosphere, including a remarkable new storm brewing, and a cousin of the Great Red Spot changing colour — again. The new image also features Jupiter’s icy moon Europa.
