I like Brooks more than most but Jesus. Yeah you don’t call your opponents Nazis unless they’re acting a lot like Nazis. Like we have to remember words do have meaning, not just cartoonish connotations. If the current GOP can’t be called fascist Nazis than literally no one would qualify.

I was not expecting Digger to be good and instead it’s one of my favorite movies of the year!

So Danny Trejo was manipulated and tricked into being in Ben Shapiro's newest film. Holy shit.

Repeat after me: Yes on 40, no on 41 and 42, which are designed to cancel out 40!

Just for once I wish society could actually mind its own business and like try to actually understand themselves and each other.

And the thing that makes it so frustrating is all the people with the loudest voices on the topic are the ones that aren’t affected - instead it becomes debates about thin celebrities and reinforcing regressive fashion standards.

We shouldn’t be discussing other people’s bodies or assumed eating habits and we should still be trying to make the world more accessible for everyone - and I really worry about the GLP discourse eroding the little progress weight neutral health science has made. I worry about them exacerbating EDs

Kira @grandfla.bsky.social · 11/10/2026
And I really don’t know what to make of it other than all of this is peoples PRIVATE business, between them and their doctor and therapist and god I hope those medical professionals get actual good weight neutral health education. We shouldn’t be making assumptions about health from looks or scales

GLP1s were clearly the right thing for ME at this specific time in my life, and I’m enormously grateful to be alive in this era and have access to them. Literally as beneficial to my life as HRT. But at other times they would have been bad, and I don’t think they’re right for everyone.

There are a lot of fat people that don’t want weight loss, and they don’t owe anyone thinness or health, and the drugs could easily make them sick and many are perfectly healthy without. It’s not your or my business. Everyone is unique, I kind of hate even bringing it up, fuck off.
100
Kira @grandfla.bsky.social · 11/10/2026
But I also really despise the societal message that all fat people should be thin or need to lose weight or aren’t eating healthy, etc, etc, etc. Fatphobia is rampant and the glp discourse in media is making it worse, and eating disorders are clearly resurging.

While I do eat a bit less, the associated weight loss is very different than my past experiences of moderate diet and exercise changes. Which frankly has been a boon to my mental and physical health. And leads me to believe something metabolic was up. And I don’t think this is true of everyone.

Kira @grandfla.bsky.social · 11/10/2026
And like I was really skeptical of them, was very concerned about losing enjoyment of food, or life, or it leading to me to dangerous behaviors again. I tried them from a very personal place after a lot of consideration of my personal experience and history.

Like even well after working with Ed recovery therapists and adopting intuitive eating principles and all the rest, years of recovery, and definitely getting enough food, I would still struggle to feel satisfied with substantial quantities of food, and GLP1s changed that.
100
Kira @grandfla.bsky.social · 11/10/2026
I would have called it “food noise”, probably cancelled it out, and have found a way to sustain my eating disorder. On the other hand, fast forward 10 years I have found GLP1’s life changing in a way that’s difficult to describe - but basically I can find food satisfying in a way I struggled to

Kira @grandfla.bsky.social · 11/10/2026
The glp 1 discourse is frustrating cause I just don’t think there’s enough intersectionality. On the one hand there was a time in my life where I had intense food cravings cause I wasnt eating enough and I was literally just hungry. And if I had had glp 1s at that time it would have been dangerous.

Honestly why the characterization of Bear in Obsession is so good - he at first isn’t even capable of telling Nikki doesn’t want him, and then even when he sees signs he finds all sorts of ways to ignore them and try to maintain plausible deniability and doesn’t really ever recognize her suffering

Kira @grandfla.bsky.social · 11/10/2026
Something they want, that they have a hard time conceptualizing as unwanted in the first place, then have a hard time connecting “unwanted” to “forced” and then having been taught to ignore the symptoms of someone in distress. Combine with general selfishness and shallowness & here we are.
100
Kira @grandfla.bsky.social · 11/10/2026
Combine that with something as a group they generally like and want a lot (sex) and it’s a recipe for abuse.
100
Kira @grandfla.bsky.social · 11/10/2026
And then I suspect from that aren’t super sensitive to coercion being a bad thing, or even that good at recognizing it AS coercion. Or worse have learned to intentionally ignore it in themselves and others either to cope or exert power for their own status in the hierarchy.

Kira @grandfla.bsky.social · 11/10/2026
Men are repeatedly desensitized from an early age to lots of bodily autonomy transgressions from peers as boys, with such harassment and abuse dismissed, minimized, and normalized. And therefore don’t really reckon with their own experiences of coercion,

Rather than it being more like your best friend who’s much bigger than you showing up with ice cream you don’t like, you’re ready to vomit from Thanksgiving dinner, they’re looming over you in your bedroom, repeatedly trying to get you to eat it, spoon in your face while threatening music plays.

Kira @grandfla.bsky.social · 11/10/2026
Like they imagine the situation being like unexpected ice cream. I don’t have a desire for ice cream right this moment after breakfast, but if my best friend out of no where showed up with a pint of Ben and Jerry’s cookie dough on a Monday at 8am and said “let’s do something crazy”, I’d eat it.

TW SA. I do think a lot of men have a hard time understanding what it truly means to not want something to happen to you…and don’t perceive the element of force involved - particularly when it comes to sex. And so the idea of unwanted sex ends up in their minds being more like unexpected sex.

My favorite quote about the people that believe LLMs will be become conscious is from Cory Doctrow: “like believing if we hook up enough horses to a carriage they’ll give birth to a locomotive”

I don’t remember who the person was, but even the inventor of the term Artificial Intelligence says it was effectively a marketing term for a type of computer research.

Tech LOVES to redefine what words mean. Bitcoin is digital currency, despite the fact it doesn’t do any of the things a currency should do. The metaverse allows for robust human connection, if you believe robust human connection involves almost no actual human connection.

I do kinda believe that about 33% of americas turmoil is the right intentionally refusing to engage with what words mean. And then a small amount of the left also refusing to engage with word connotations

Still thinking about the president advocating for Iran to bomb LA. Can you imagine the reaction if literally anyone else advocated for a middle eastern country to bomb America? What would the reaction be if it was Indiana? This shit isn’t cool.

Constant talk about how businesses always have to do what’s in the shareholders interests - how is it remotely in their interest to sell the company and saddle it with billions upon billions in debt that can never be paid back? “Shareholder value” only apparently matters in layoffs.

That’s like me buying a house with a loan except the house then becomes responsible for paying the loan off and the house starts paying me rent.

Kira @grandfla.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
I still don’t understand how it’s possible to buy a company with money I don’t have, which then becomes the company’s problem to pay back while I get paid millions upon millions of dollars and the company is basically doomed to financial ruin. Like clearly some part of that should not be possible.

There’s no way Fox should have been allowed to be merged with Disney, much less Warner brothers and Paramount. These companies are all massive and the consolidation is literally what anti trust exists to prevent.

Exactly. But I feel femme fashion makes me look masc and also masc fashion makes me look masc. And there’s like a 1% sliver of options that make me look femme wearing masc which is generally what I’m going for. And it does make me want to tear my hair out often.

I want to be a shapeshifter cause then I could actually change my body daily to express my mood rather than being limited to fashion, which at least on my body does jack squat to express it properly.

I hear so much good about progesterone but it always ends up feeling like I’m taking very expensive sugar pills. Except the one time they put me on medroxy - and all that caused was gaining 40lbs of pregnancy belly in 2 months.

Like I genuinely thought musicals were all dull love stories about small Midwestern towns singing about librarians and clam bakes.
010
Kira @grandfla.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
Also the fact that a lot of exposure to musicals happens through their movies - a LOT of which are not good. The performance thing is real too. We were not well off, saw 1 show a year at a community dinner theatre that had midi tracks. HS was the first time I saw a show with a live orchestra.

Kira @grandfla.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
I didn’t hate musicals ever but I was fairly ambivalent cause I only was exposed to like the music man and sound of music and other very classical old ones (that I appreciate now but aren’t for a 7 year old). Then my high school did Urinetown, soon after I discovered Sondheim, and my life changed.

Idk I think part of the issue is that most of the big issues my industry (and the world) faces aren’t really technology problems. But everyone in power certainly wants them to be. Cause a technology problem can be solved easily just by making new shit. But changing the way you do things: much harder
000
Kira @grandfla.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
And to my way of thinking the answer is mostly no, certainly not the big problems. So why so much focus? So much energy? Can we focus on the actual big problems and rest assured knowing the AI is there if a problem presents itself that actually needs it?
010
Kira @grandfla.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
But idk it’s just crazy like in my industry so many talks about “how we’ll use this” and “how do you want to use this” etc etc and I can’t help but thinking “ok but what big problems are we actually facing and do any of them remotely relate to what this tech can do?”
110
Kira @grandfla.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
I’m always just amazed in the world at large how often it’s technology in search of a problem rather than a problem in search of a technology. Thinking about AI yet again

They got so spoiled by the early tech years of explosive growth they’re just incapable of admitting to themselves they’re now Coca-Cola. No one wants to settle for stability. So how we gotta constantly hear about how the butt knife 3000 is the inevitable future
