Invite Only: This means you can only have players joining if you invite them from within the game's physical invite envelope system on the desk in the in-game lobby, not from within Steam friends in a chat window. You’d press “E” on the envelopes.

Public: Anyone can join your lobby. Use at your own risk. Utilize the Multiplayer menu tools to kick anyone from your lobby as the host. If you kick a person, they could rejoin if the lobby remains public. The ban button will only ban that player from the current session.
