Graham Walmsley 🎲 @grahamwalmsley.bsky.social · 10/10/2026I'm writing Alien Archaeology, which is a really beautiful thing to write. I am perhaps milking all the different descriptions of light. Light here, light there, prismatic light refracting through stuff, pools of light like spotlights, etc etc. 090

Graham Walmsley 🎲 @grahamwalmsley.bsky.social · 04/10/2026Oh, and you can safely ignore the theme, the ingredients and so on. Use them if they inspire you, don't use them if they don't. 020
Graham Walmsley 🎲 @grahamwalmsley.bsky.social · 04/10/2026And, as best you can, ignore the awards. It doesn't matter what the judges think: they're just a sackful of fighting kittens. Write something you'd like to play and call it done. 160

Graham Walmsley 🎲 @grahamwalmsley.bsky.social · 04/10/2026Yes definitely - I can already see the early indie games disappearing, so I basically want to stop that happening with anything else! 020
Graham Walmsley 🎲 @grahamwalmsley.bsky.social · 04/10/2026I think it's fine to leave it. You can't support everything, but you don't want them to disappear totally if people want them. (I'm the same with my weird early games) 150

Graham Walmsley 🎲 @grahamwalmsley.bsky.social · 30/09/2026In the early days after AW was published, it felt as though there was a rush to translate it over to all the major genres. There weren't exactly games called Cowboy World, Zombie World and Action World, but it felt like that. There's less of that now. 050
Graham Walmsley 🎲 @grahamwalmsley.bsky.social · 30/09/2026I've often thought that, if you design a game around "10+ success, 7-9 success with complications, 6- bad", you're missing the stuff that makes Apocalypse World great. (I think something similar if you simply translate the original AW moves to a new setting, although there's less of that now.) 280

Graham Walmsley 🎲 @grahamwalmsley.bsky.social · 23/09/2026I did this with Cosmic Dark (art by @handiworkgames.bsky.social ).The logo is separate, so you can move it anywhere: the cover is the right hand side of the image with the logo on the centre. 171
Graham Walmsley 🎲 @grahamwalmsley.bsky.social · 23/09/2026This is beautiful and also a textbook example of how to design an image so you can reuse it for a wraparound cover, a Kickstarter banner and much more. Graham Walmsley 🎲 @grahamwalmsley.bsky.social · 19/09/2026I was half-thinking that this didn't seem to apply to you. What I've found in the UK is that, if I take Will That Be All? to a tabletop convention, people look interested but don't often buy it, and if I advertise it to LARPers, they don't either. But fair point about how you position it. 101
Graham Walmsley 🎲 @grahamwalmsley.bsky.social · 19/09/2026I think it's the combination. TTRPG players will buy a game on cards, but don't want to play a LARP. LARP players will buy a ticket for an event, but not (generally) a game on cards. 271
Graham Walmsley 🎲 @grahamwalmsley.bsky.social · 19/09/2026Lear was good. It came across as a Game of Thrones-esque political struggle in a folkloric Britain. Ian McDiarmid was good, a fond old man losing his power, although there were bits of the production that didn't work for me (why are his trousers down?). But I liked it. 120
Graham Walmsley 🎲 @grahamwalmsley.bsky.social · 19/09/2026I'm so happy when people play Will That Be All?. I think it's one of the best things I've written, but it tends to get overlooked, because it's a LARP-on-a-deck-of-cards. www.drivethrurpg.com/en/product/1... 2122
