Found this Great silver water beetle ( Hydrophilus piceus ) in our moth trap this morning . It was placed on the lily pads in our garden (wild) pond (Littlestone Kent VC15) to continue its journey as it feels fit . The total length of this beetle was just under 50 mm .

Oops the only image I have of this was taken in the trap (it flew when I put it on the moth board) I would think Blair`s Mocha but diskal ring with pale centre is missing . Shore Wainscott made it to the board as did a rather pale Yellow shell, Satellite and 6 Clancy`s rustic .ALT for Latin names

I am so lucky to have such good birding and birding friends at Dungeness. Yesterday there was a Whiskered Tern on the RSPB reserve. I was late and thought It had left so Imagine my relief when I spotted it on the last place I was going to look Hookers pit. Later it flew high and off the reserve.

I could not resist posting another image of yesterdays Iberian Chiff chaff that I took at South view Dungeness . The bird found by Dave Bunney showed well . As the afternoon slipped by the bird called several times and eventually a short but clear song was heard
