Reposted by Lukas GrafBenedetta Catitti @bcatitti.bsky.social · 07/09/2026🚨Preprint alert! 🚨What if your study animal doesn't know the landscape yet? Standard movement models such as SSA assume it does. In our new study we let it learn instead, and put "learner" against "omniscient" head to head (1/4) doi.org/10.64898/202... 12920
Lukas Graf @graflukas.bsky.social · 06/07/2026Big thanks to my co-authors Annika Felton, Wiebke Neumann and Göran Ericsson and the reviewers to get this work, which happens to be the unplanned for second chapter of my PhD, across the finish line! 000
Lukas Graf @graflukas.bsky.social · 06/07/2026With this work, we underscore the importance of considering forage parameters when assessing space use of cervids and show possible applications for spatially explicit forage abudance datasets such as the SLU Viltfoderkartor / SLU Forage Availability Maps. www.slu.se/miljoanalys/...slu.seSLU Viltfoderkarta | slu.seVetenskap och utbildning för hållbart liv. 100
Lukas Graf @graflukas.bsky.social · 06/07/2026Across most behavioral and temporal domains, habitat selection was best explained using both categorical habitat classes and estimated forage abundance. However, when directly compared against each other, forage abundance appeared to be a much better predictor than categorical habitat classes. 100
Lukas Graf @graflukas.bsky.social · 06/07/2026We just published a short comminication in Wildlife Biology. Link: doi.org/10.1002/wlb3... Using GPS telemetry data from 54 moose we show how using continuous information on forage abundance instead of categorical habitat covariates can improve inference on habitat selection. 151
Lukas Graf @graflukas.bsky.social · 05/04/2025A great week at the #ECM9 has ended. First time in a long while talking about movement ecology. 010
