Selvamani Selvaraj instills Kaantha with such propulsive force that it is impossible to look away. It's also the most gorgeous Tamil film of the year. The actors take care of the rest. Review, www.ottplay.com/features/kaa...

Rewatched 28 Days Later and it is still so visceral and fresh for a film that attached to its formal aesthetics. But found these lb reviews to be gold!

I am looking at the big picture here. The international intrigue hodgepodge aside, Prithviraj's #L2Empuraan centers the Muslim identity and experience in modern India. No big budget star vehicle has done this. Quite a feat. Review, www.ottplay.com/features/l2-...

Found this interesting. There are a lot of issues with the unorganized financial structure especially in Tamil cinema. It is limiting and shrinking the slate. But it is also what protects it from this sort of self-censorship.

Dibakar quite disarmingly said if Tees had released all fine, he would have been like "Why Bhubaneswar. It's released!". But that's not happening so he has all this rebellious spirit to take the film and show it anywhere. Tees @ 14th Indian Film Festival of Bhubaneswar

Subhadra Mahajan's Second Chance (Hindi, Himachali, English). Another monochrome entry, the choice adding a lot to this film about a woman who finds solace and meaning in the hills, pulling the future closer just as it threatens to get away from her.

Jaicheng Xai Dohutia's Baghjan (Assamese) questions the nature of an oil leak tragedy in Assam, blending documentary and fiction, in both footage and characters/actors. Some of the most striking images complement a tragic but rebellious spirit.

Vipin Radhakrishnan's Angammal (Tamil) based on Perumal Murugan's Kodithuni. Soft. Unapologetic. A titular role for Geetha Kailasam. Funnily enough, has shades of Balachander. With Saran Sakthi and Mullaiyarasi, big performers who found small roles in Meiyazhagan and Kottukkaali.
