Received one of the best compliments of my life when, catching up with a friend for the first time since I started T, I complained that I don't fit my Witcher cosplay anymore and he congratulated me on moving up from the School of the Wolf to the School of the Bear

Do I have a half dozen deadlines all creeping up fast? Yes. Did I drop them all to dash off a last-minute sub to a call for outdoor-themed transgender smut? Also yes. Sometimes you just gotta go where your heart leads you.

When someone fucks up and in a split second two lovers are each convinced that the other hates them; both of them wrong, but both too afraid to say anything out loud. I felt bad as soon as I put it on paper. The sheer momentum of needing to get rid of that feeling carried me to the end of the book.

Are there vegetables in the gymbro meal plan? I like to sprinkle both of those on my veggie of choice before steaming, maybe with a little salt and chili flakes too

Almost 100% certain the classic Sierra RPG Quest for Glory 2 makes this joke the first time you walk into either… a bar or a room in which a djinn resides, I can’t remember which.

Mysterious monoliths make for poor carving material
A large glossy rectangular monolith with an unfinished face carved into it. The monolith is split in half and a mass of pink alien tendrils spill out from within it

Oh, Mom is a super-user. Mom sits for hours in one spot doing population counts of migratory birds. You can’t take Mom outside for 5 minutes before she stops to ID a plant. Every time she comes to my house she creates a kill list of invasives she spots in my yard.

My mother, much like an avid Pokemon player, has been cataloging bumblebees. “I don’t have all the different morphs,” she apologises, “But here’s the 2 dozen species from this region, including male and female variants, labeled by rarity & in which terrain type they can be found.”
Photo of a bumblebee (species undetermined: I, unlike my mother, am not a Master Pokemon Trainer) feasting on a bright yellow cluster of goldenrod flowers

I suppose I should clarify for anyone who’s 1) concerned for my health and 2) not a trained radiologist: this is a picture of perfectly healthy, 100% totally fine bones. My problems lie in the mysterious depths of the soft tissue, but my noble and loyal skeleton still remains true to me.

Then the other pair of O rings on the side are for attaching your leg gear to. Think like… how a garter belt works.

gradientdescent @gradientdescent.net · 29/09/2026
If it’s sized to fit around the waist/hips, the O-rings are probably positioned to serve as an anchor to attach your wrist cuffs to. At least, uh, that’s what they’re for when I make a belt that looks something like this.

Right?? ‘Pandora’s Box’, one skull missing due to the fact that her complicated relationship with my dad meant that it got shoved in the basement for 10 years after her death where nobody could see it. I want to learn enough about claywork to repair it one day.

That’s not a speculative claim. Nana C was out there sculpting this in the 80s.
Photograph of a clay sculpture depicting a diorama of two walls and the floor of a prison cell. A barred window is set into one of the walls. In the corner, stone steps curve up to a small dais. Atop the dais is an open box, painted to resemble wood, out of which spills nearly a dozen misshapen skulls.

My nana absolutely woulda been all over this. I like to think if she were still alive, we would bond over a shared love of the grotesque.

You know what I love about modern EMR platforms (he said, uttering a phrase never before spoken in the English language)? They let you just download your own imagery any time you want. 100% ethical source of high-quality medical reference images. And you get to see your BONES.
Image of an x-ray film showing a right hand from the forearm to the fingertip. It being an x-ray, the bones are the main feature.

Don’t use that shit if you’re writing industrial process controllers but it’s… less bad… for video games… I guess.

like, creating AI generated test cases for automated QA isn’t really putting anyone out of a job. although it IS degrading the quality of your test suite. but most teams don’t have enough QA budget to have had actual good test cases to begin with.

I will say that of all the professionals I associate with, coders are the only ones where a decent % of them do like some (emphasis on SOME) ai tools and don’t consider it a punch in the balls that it’s trained on their own stack overflow posts

One of the most fun things I did last week was go to every used book store in the city (and an extensive dive through my own library) to build a cover art mood board. Could I have done this via Google search? I mean… I guess? But it would not have satisfied the needs of my soul.

logical pipeline failed at the first step: the baby, beet red and pissed off about everything and screaming for milk, doesn’t give one solitary fuck about binary gender except that it’s one more line on the form that doc’s gotta fill out that’s standing between them and getting fed
