In the television miniseries adaptation of Around the World in 80 Days, Pierce Brosnan delivers a performance as Phileas Fogg that captures the essence of Jules Verne’s original literary character. It is so darn funny. Eric Idle as Passepartout. Peter Ustinov as Detective Wilbur Fix - pure bliss.

Jacob Collier made a direct artistic reference. During a concert at the Vega music club in Copenhagen, he performed a cover version of the classic "Wonderful Copenhagen" - a song made by Danny Kaye in the 1952 film classic Hans Christian Andersen.

Back then, we were housesitters for a precious mid-century architectural gem. I frantically wiped the wine rings off the teak tables. A bunch of students we were 👍 But my dad was a carpenter and interiour designer and taught me well.

A cat I know brought me a dead young rabbit. Her mother hadn't taught her how to eat it, and she was dancing around it in desperation. Skinned and butchered the legs for her - she was very happy.

The last potential roommate was really likable, and we even had a lightsaber duel before he left. This could work out. If you buy lightsabers (at least two!), look for a metal hilt - the weight is crucial for realistic handling. Also don't expect to get through airport security with that.

I always hated PE. I’d climb up a rope and tie a big knot to sit on - out of sight, out of mind. Down below, my classmates had to do those shitty vaulting box jumps. No barbed wire in sight, but classic Nazi-style combat training. Or I hid in the equipment room and lay on mats.

I was sitting on the bus next to a young man who looked like Orson Welles. I felt quite self-conscious because I found him attractive. A car rear-ended the bus, and we were the only ones who didn't get off to gawk; yet that had nothing to do with flirting. That was just the way we were. THE END

I was sort of underwhelmed by Peter Jackson`s Lord Of The Rings because I felt it to be hasty. I really did not like the pace. Rewatched this week and was delighted. Nowaday films are hasty; not LOTR.

Sometimes I have lucid dreams. The water is always around 16 degrees; unfortunately, the delicious food just tastes like water. To stay in the dream, I touch things - this works! The best part is that I can fly and jump from great heights without getting hurt in dream. You can learn to dream lucid.

Came across a hedgehog while out cycling, and the huge tick near its eye had to be removed—I picked it up with both hands, and the hosts of Mordor came racing up my arms. Hedgehogs harbor vast numbers of parasites. I screamed and dropped it, but then removed the tick using the recommended method. uh

When I buy vital items like a Schleich orca from children aged around 7 - 10 who are holding a flea market on a blanket, I never fail to tell them not to reveal their names, social media accounts, or addresses to adults. I love how they always beam and say: Thanks—but we’ve already been told that."

Years ago, I lost a pearl earring and, out of curiosity, tried dissolving the remaining one in vinegar - just like Cleopatra (though I didn't intend to drink the result). It turned out to be made entirely of plastic :) Encourage your children to conduct experiments: it’s fun. Also hide your pearls.

Yesterday we caught a beautiful wolf spider and released it back into the wild. We would have liked to keep it, but wolf spiders require specific soil moisture levels and temperatures that aren't consistently found in a typical home; indoors, they dry out and can't find enough food.

At 14, I spent my holidays with an aunt who was a potter. I painted plates for her - not with traditional Bavarian motifs, but with dragons and phoenixes and so on. I was in the moment :) She was worried about it, but they sold like hotcakes. I hadn't thought it through, and I was relieved too.

Leaving notes for each other in a shared flat often doesn't help the atmosphere. A very nice young woman constantly keeps forgetting her keys, so I hung this on the door (inside).

A bet among friends: who could find harissa the fastest at KaDeWe in Berlin? The department where it was supposed to be was so enormous that I simply gave up. I waited at the meeting point, having a glass of white wine with ice cubes and a headache pill provided by the nice waitress.

The documented total number of fascists killed by female snipers across Europe during WW2 amounts to over 12,000 confirmed kills. Female partisans in Yugoslavia, France or Italy also killed fascists. Due to the chaos of the underground war, these actions were never recorded in reliable statistics.

Forget electric knife sharpeners - they end in disaster. A Japanese wetstone costs around 5 euros here (but you CAN pay 100 euros on one, if you wanted), and if you keep the angle nice and shallow, your knives will get wonderfully sharp. Passes the tomato test 100%.
