They sound like demented chickens. The first time I heard them - we were in Alaska, where there are a *lot* - I couldn't believe it was really a bald eagle.

I keep hoping to see Hallie Shoffner / Arkansas on that list...

Love watching borders work. They are so intense and so smart (though I've known at least one who thought he knew better than the shepherd - spoiler alert - he did *not*).

I keep hoping to see Arkansas and Hallie Shoffner on these lists... either way, yes, good news AND KEEP GOING. Never get complacent!

Well, there's one line in that statement from Tuberville that's actually true: "Folks, we've lost our damn mind." Indeed... just not *quite* the way he means, eh?

I've heard it said that dog people want their dog to be a human, and cat people just want to *be the cat*. Truth.

Thank you Ms. Klobuchar for (a) making the correction and (b) calling out Schmitt. Sheesh. This is high school stupidity.

removed as soon as they start to wake up. Blood oxygen is checked by pressing the gums and watching how fast they color recovers. It's fast-paced and, frankly, exhausting; one of the vet techs commented that she feels like she's been run over by a bus after a day on the recovery station. /end

Yes. I volunteer in a rescue center's surgery (spay, neuter, many kittens, cats, puppies, dogs). Monitor internal temperature - they need to be kept warm (normal is 100 - 102) but not too warm. Subcutaneous fluids if needed. The females have endotracheal tubes that have to be monitored and 🧵

Hmm. I volunteer in the medical clinic (read: spay & neuter) at a local rescue shelter. This is NOT how we handle the cats, kittens, dogs, puppies as they come out of anesthesia. Just sayin'.

I'm fascinated by how animals we view as Serious and potentially Threatening (these guys and bald eagles as prime examples) have what we can only call Unserious and Cute voices.

Yes! We were in Alaska a number of years ago visiting my husband's son, daughter-in-law, and granddaughter. Lots of bald eagles. I kept asking ... is that sound REALLY a bald eagle? and they kept saying, Yes. Crazy.

I'm reminded of the crazy-chicken noises that majestic bald eagles make... (Seriously. They have to use golden eagle screams in movies.)

On Threads, there's a custom - dare I say, *rule* - that when you mention your cat, you must pay the cat tax in the form of a photo of your cat. I think this is a good custom (rule?) to bring over here to Bluesky. What do y'all think?

Then along came the fishes, And they said, “If you wishes, You can have us for playmates, Instead of for tea!” So they now play together, In all sorts of weather, And the Puffin eats pancakes, Like you and like me. end/

But this poor little Puffin, He couldn’t play nothin’, For he hadn’t anybody To play with at all. So he sat on his island And he cried for a while, and He felt very lonely, And he felt very small. 2/

by Florence Page Jaques Oh, there once was a Puffin Just the shape of a muffin, And he lived on an island In the bright blue sea! He ate little fishes, That were most delicious And he had them for supper And he had them for tea. 1/

Agreed. AND editing is a value-add, a significant one. If you can't afford an editor, I get it. But find someone who can give you input on flow, word choice (too many homonyms and similar errors), functional grammer / punctuation. It's not about immature writing; it's about tidying up the edges.
110
gracejudson.bsky.social @gracejudson.bsky.social · 22/07/2026
Absolutely! It just hurts to see a decent and even good plot and well-written story taken down by bad editing. And yes, that's my opinion and not necessarily anyone else's.
120
gracejudson.bsky.social @gracejudson.bsky.social · 22/07/2026
When the editing is bad enough, I stop reading. And I'll add, my bar is set pretty high (I'm a writer *and* a proofreader / editor).

There was, very long ago, a LARGE book on coding and QA. In it was a tale about a customer support organization where the reps had to explain the problem to a teddy bear in its own cubicle before they could involve a senior rep in the problem. I wonder if the teddy bear predates the rubber duck?
