Reading Dream of Inkberry's "Game Design as Play: In Pursuit of Bad Art" and I take a lot of solace in this quote. I'm still new to this, and so much of my work is untested, and it's often hard to get feedback or find time to play with friends. It can feel hard to figure out, but I do try for art.

Having thought of myself primarily as a writer I never really considered how much fun I would have actually doing the layout for my games, but it's been amazing thinking of them as potentially beautiful (digital) objects that are as expressive of the world and themes as the rules are.
