gourdy.bsky.social @gourdy.bsky.social · 01/12/2024I got the AMD one with an 8xxx something, and performance-wise it's been quite decent. gourdy.bsky.social @gourdy.bsky.social · 01/12/2024Part of it is probably Intel too. From what I've read, the new gen is verrrry toasty. Feels like Intel is undergoing another Pentium D life-cycle wirh ever increasing power and heat envelopes leading to self throttling CPUs. 110
gourdy.bsky.social @gourdy.bsky.social · 30/11/2024The old Intel Macs could be doodoo due to lack of power and heat throttling, but with the M CPUs, that fixed the bigger knock against them. 030

gourdy.bsky.social @gourdy.bsky.social · 26/11/2024And yeah, as far as the price of gas goes, I don't see what incentive anyone has to sell gas cheaper. OK, so people buy more of it, but then you are making less money on it - so why bother? You need more storage, more transportation, and more workers, to make all that extra oil. 000
gourdy.bsky.social @gourdy.bsky.social · 26/11/2024Remember when oil dipped below $0 during COVID? That was due to a drop in demand. Suddenly producing a ton more would not be as extreme, of course, but it also would upset the balance of cost: www.eia.gov/todayinenerg...eia.govCrude oil prices briefly traded below $0 in spring 2020 but have since been mostly flat - U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) 000
gourdy.bsky.social @gourdy.bsky.social · 26/11/2024You have to store that oil somewhere. Storing it is not free. If they are at equilibrium in terms of moving the product at a price, there's really no reason for them to pump more oil. If they have to store that, it actually costs them more money. And selling more causes oil to go down in price. 000
gourdy.bsky.social @gourdy.bsky.social · 26/11/2024Overproduction leads to lower prices. It's a balance. If they flood the market with too much oil, price goes down. So now you're making more, but can't charge as much. Lower margins for net zero gain. 100
